Research Methodology

Research Design

This research employs the quantitative-non experimental design utilizing descriptive and

correlational technique. Quantitative research design is the process of collecting and analyzing

numerical data. It can be used to find patterns and averages, make predictions, test causal

relationships, and generalize results to wider populations (Pritha Bhandari, 2022). Descriptive

research is a quantitative research method of research in which you describe characteristics of

a population or phenomenon being studied. Correlational research is also a quantitative

research method which have two or more quantitative variables from the same group of

subjects. These designs will be used since the main objective of the study is to find out Netflix

as an alternative learning tool for HUMSS Grade 12 student Ismael Mathay Sr. Highschool.

Research Instrument

The researcher will use the following instrument to collect data:

1. Questionnaire

It was the primary source of data. It contained questions, which answered the problems stated

in Chapter 1. The respondents will answer some questions about language proficiency. It will

help the research to gather the information of the respondents in their language proficiency

rate.
2. Survey

The researcher will prepare a survey that will collect the data of the respondents. It also include

the demographic profile of the respondents. In this survey the researcher will gather how long

the respondents using the Netflix.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RESPONDENTS

The respondents of the study are the selected Grade 12 Students who are responded to the

survey that was conducted. They are the ones who are more able to answer the survey because

they are in the academic strand and the study of the researcher is important to them, because

that is what they specialize in.

All of the respondents are studying Humanities and Social Sciences at Ismael Mathay Sr.

HighSchool. The survey included 15 Grade12 Humss Students from the three sections. Humss A,

Humss C, and Humss D are they have the same selected 5 respondents.

It is important for the researchers to know what their answer will be because it will help the

researchers in there studies and to know how important netflix is in expanding the students’

English vocabulary and to know if this is an alternative learning tool for developing language

proficiency in them to sharpen the students’ speaking even more.

Sampling Design

This study uses stratified random sampling technique in gathering data. Stratified random

sampling is a method of sampling from a population which can be partitioned into

subpopulations. The respondents of the study were selected from Grade 12 students of
Humanities and Social Science in Ismael Mathay Sr. Highschool for school year 2022-2023. The

researcher sorts the respondents in 1 stratum based on the following characteristics: students

must be in Humanities and Social Science strand, students who have a Netflix account and has

atleast 1-2 years’ experience in using Netflix.

Out of 15 Netflix users in Humanities and Social Science strand of Ismael Mathay Sr. Highschool

all of the 15 students were selected based from Slovin’s Formula of computing the sample size

With a population size of 15 students who uses Netflix, a 5% of margin error, and 95%

confidence level. The researcher uses stratified random sampling on each sections selecting 5

students in HUMSS-A, 5 students in HUMSS-B, and 5 students in HUMSS-C, which gives the

researcher a representative of 15 students.
