GOOD DAY EVERYONE.

MY NAME IS NITYANTINI NADESON WITH MATRIC

NUMBER 156006.TODAY IM GOING TO DISCUSS ABOUT DEFINITION ABOUT
THREE MODES OF HEAT TRANSFER ,EQUATION AND EXAMPLE

THE DEFINITION OF CONDUCTION IS -HEAT WAS TRANSFERRED FROM

MOLECULE TO MOLECULE WITHIN A SUBSTANCE BY THE COLLISION OF
PARTICLES. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN WE COOKING THE HEAT FROM THE PAN
CAN TRAVEL TO THE HANDLE.

THE LAW UNDER THE CONDUCTION IS FOURIER'S LAW.

EQUATION FOR CONDUCTION IS

∆T
Q=kA
∆X
Q = Transfer of heat per unit time

k= thermal conductivity of the body

A= Area of heat transfer

T = Temperature of hot region – temperature at cold region

X = Thickness of body

SECONDLY THE DEFINITION OF CONVECTION IS TRANSFER OF HEAT BY THE

MASS MOVEMENT OF A FLUID OR GAS ,LIKE WATER AND AIR.WARM PART OF
THE FLUID RISES ,COLD PAT SINKS. FOR EXAMPLE when a pot of water is placed
on the stove to boil, conduction heat warms up the pot, which then heats the water
molecules inside.

LAW THAT INVOLVE IN CONVECTION NEWTON'S LAW OF COOLING

Q=hc . A .(T S−T F )

Q = Heat transfer per unit time

hc coefficient of convective heat transfer

A= Area of heat transfer

Ts= surface temperature

Tf= fluid temperature

DEFINITION OF RADIATION IS TRANSFER OF HEAT THROUGH
ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES THROUGH SPACE. RADIATION DOES NOT NEED
ANY MEDIUM (MOLECULE OR ATOMS) ENERGY CAN BE TRANSFERRED BY
RAIATION EVEN IN VACUUMFOR EXAMPLE FOOD WE COOK IN OVEN. stefan-
boltzman law EXPLAINS ABOUT As temperature rises, the wavelength in the spectra of the
radiation emitted decreases and shorter wavelengths radiations are emitted. Thermal radiation
can be calculated by Stefan-Boltzmann law:

P = e ∙ σ ∙ A· (Tr – Tc) 4

 P is the net power of radiation

 A is the area of radiation
 Tr is the radiator temperature
 Tc is the surrounding temperature
 e is emissivity and
 σ is Stefan’s constant (σ = 5.67 × 10-8Wm-2K-4

industrial application of heat transfer

NEXT THE EXAMPLE OF HEAT TRANBSFER THAT APPLY HEAT TRANSFER IS

HEAT EXCHANGER. Heat exchangers are devices that transfer heat between fluids
without mixing or blending them. The fluids are separated by a wall that has high
thermal conductivity. Food, dairy, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries all use heat
exchangers as part of an efficient, hygienic production process.

Modes of heat transfer happen

Conduction - This is the transfer of heat energy by direct collisions of adjacent
molecules. A molecule with higher kinetic energy will transfer thermal energy to a
molecule with lower kinetic energy. It occurs more readily in solids. For heat
exchangers, it takes place on the wall separating the two fluids

and Convection- Convection in heat exchangers occurs through the bulk motion of the fluid
against the surface of the wall, thus transferring thermal energy.

At university
Boiling of water at laboratory
When you put BEAKER of water on the HEATING MANTLE to boil, for example, conduction
heat warms thBEAKER, which then heats the water molecules within. Convection causes
these molecules to migrate out from the pot's interior as they heat up and are replaced by
cooler ones. Within the water, this constant stream causes convection heat transfer.
MODES OF HEAT TRANSFER THAT HAPPENS IN LABORATORY IS CONDUCTION AND
CONVECTION
