Perform a Software Reset

A software reset and powering the printer off and then on will perform many of the same
tasks; however, the main differences are as follows:

• A software reset clears the temporary files from the System and the Network Controller.
• A power off and on sequence shuts down the printer and clears any data in the Volatile
Memory.

It is best to perform a software reset first.

1. Perform a Software Reset if you have the appropriate access; if not, proceed to step 2.
2. If the reset does not achieve the expected results, or the Reset function is restricted by a
System Administrator, power off the printer, wait 2 minutes, then power the printer
back on. To properly power the printer off and on, refer to Power the Printer On and
Off.

Note: When performing the Power Off and Power On procedure, it is crucial that the
printer remain completely powered off for a minimum of 2 minutes before powering
back on in order for any residual power remaining in the device components to dissipate.

CAUTION: Depending on the state of the printer, a software reset may delete all
pending jobs from the print queue.

IMPORTANT: Using Software Resets to restart the printer is faster and wastes fewer
consumables than powering the printer off and on.

A software reset may be performed from the Control Panel or from the Embedded Web Server
