Potter-Tioga Maple Producers’ Maple Ambassador Program

The Potter-Tioga Maple Producers are seeking candidates to represent the association as the 2023
Potter-Tioga Maple Ambassadors. The program has been redesigned and is now open to any gender,
10th or 11th grade students who live within the Potter and Tioga County school district boundaries.
Representatives must be able to attend Maple Weekend 2023 (March 18th & 19th) by touring local sugar
houses and visiting with local producers. Representatives must also attend the Maple Festival on May
6th, 2023 where up to two representatives will be selected as Maple Ambassadors of Potter and Tioga
Counties. In late Summer 2023 the PTMPA Board of Directors will select which, if not both, candidates
will go on to compete at the Pennsylvania State Ambassador competition to be held in Fall 2023 at the
Annual Pennsylvania State Meeting.

The purpose of the Potter-Tioga Maple Ambassador program is to promote the maple industry and
relations between maple producers and the public in both rural and urban settings. The Potter-Tioga
Maple Ambassadors will hold their title for one year. Ambassadors will be selected based on knowledge
of the maple industry, speaking ability, festival involvement, ability to promote the local maple industry,
and personality. Candidates need not have any maple industry knowledge, just an interest and
willingness to learn. Candidates must be good with public relations. Ambassadors will receive a
scholarship for their efforts at completion of one year title.

Interested applicants must submit a completed application by March 3, 2023 to

informational teleconference meeting the week of March 6th.

2023/2024 Potter-Tioga Maple Ambassador Program

Program Purpose:

The purpose of the Potter-Tioga Maple Ambassador program is to promote the maple industry and
relations between maple producers and the general public in both rural and urban settings. The Potter-
Tioga Maple Ambassadors will hold their title for one year. Ambassadors will be selected based on
knowledge of the maple industry, speaking ability, festival involvement, ability to promote the local
maple industry, and personality. Candidates must be good with public relations. Representatives of the
Potter-Tioga Maple Producers Association should be gracious, courteous, respectful, helpful, prepared,
and a good listener.

Program Rules:

1. Maple Ambassador candidates must be a member of the Junior or Sophomore class.

2. Candidate must attend one of the school districts within Potter and Tioga counties. Physical
residency does not need to be within Potter or Tioga counties.
3. The Maple Ambassador program is open to both males and females.
4. Candidates must be willing to learn about the PA maple industry and act as a positive
spokesperson for the local industry.
5. Candidate must not be a former local winner, or state contestant.
6. Must have parental/guardian consent if under the age of 18.
7. No maple industry knowledge is required.
8. No drinking, smoking, or drug use – the association is seeking a positive role model.
9. Up to two Ambassadors will be chosen to represent Potter and Tioga counties at the Maple
Festival competition. Candidates will be selected from the two highest ranked candidates as per
the judges’ scoring, no matter which county they reside within. The PTMPA will select which
Ambassadors will compete in the State Ambassador competition in Fall 2023.
10. If the Potter or Tioga Maple Ambassador’s personal conduct during their appointment so
warrants, they may be asked to give up their title, and thus relieved of their duties. This action
would be determined by the Potter-Tioga Maple Producers’ Board of Directors.
11. Judges of the competition will make their appointment based on the contestant’s knowledge of
the maple industry, speech/presentation, willingness to promote the maple industry, and
personality. Candidates will be asked to give a 10-15 minute presentation at the upcoming
Maple Festival to demonstrate this knowledge.
12. Completed application must be received by March 3, 2023 to pottertiogamaple@gmail.com.
13. The Maple Ambassador will receive a monetary scholarship at the end of their appointment. In
order to receive the scholarship each Ambassador must fulfil their duties per the Potter-Tioga
Maple Ambassador Handbook and contract. Potter-Tioga Maple Ambassadors will receive $300
scholarships at the completion of their title in May 2024 at the Maple Festival.
