MELC #: 12
MELC: : Examine human responses to emerging challenges in contemporary
societies

Lesson Title: New Challenges in Contemporary Societies

Overview of the Lesson:

Drastic global climate changes have greatly affected several human communities
and nations across the world. Different from how the early humans were able to
adapt to the changing climate, the current changes in our environment are too fast
and too drastic that we are unable to catch up and adapt.
In prehistory, evolution is the only way that can describe how human societies
adapt to new challenges in the physical, social and cultural environment for global
climate change. Emerging erratic and extreme climate conditions are just one of the
many new challenges to human and social change.
New technologies, new discoveries, and the continued wanton disregard of the
environment, and the steady reduction in both plant and animal species are the
sources of change and new challenges to human adaptation. Any kind of change in
the aforementioned sources of new challenges have major impacts to various
societies or communities across the world.
