What did Proterra do to deliver what was specified by the King County teams?

What were the outcomes because of what they did?

Proterra, a U .S. electric bus start-up from Greenville in South Carolina, has used the

lessons learned from successfully delivering three buses to the King County Metro Transit,

Seattle, Washington, to develop processes to accelerate the delivery of future bus orders .

Ethan Carbough, bid and proposal manager of Porterra, implemented a more formal project

management process that included overcommunication of the customer’s expectations to

everyone on the bus production team . After winning the bid to produce the buses, Porterra

invited representatives from King County to Porterra’s headquarters for a three-day

technical review. A comparative analysis was done between the standard bus design and

the desired specifications . Customization on the standard design was determined to meet

the specs. Being able to discuss and plan ahead all the necessary changes, saved the

Proterra team from spending so much time on product reviews and requests. During project

meetings and progress reports, they make sure to get more people involved, such as

having a service technician to answer maintenance questions during the delivery of the first

bus . They implemented the strategy of listening to the stakeholders and engaging them

from the very beginning of the project. Their plan helped them to avoid rework. Thus, it

improves their cash flow because they deliver the projects on time and improves customer

satisfaction.
