Exercise:

Answer the following questions:

1. Which definition of geography makes the most sense to you?
The definition of geography that makes me sense is Geography is the study of
places and the relationships between people and their
environments.Geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth& #39;s
surface and the human societies spread across it. geography seeks to
understand where things are found, why they are there, and how they develop
and change over
time.

2. In what ways can geography be useful to you in your current field of study or
occupation?
Understand how human activities, landscapes, and other physical, biological, and
cultural phenomena vary across space, and the factors that influence these
patterns.

Assessment:
*Research about the three models/approaches in human geography
THE THREE MODELS:
1.ENVIRONMENTAL DETERMINISM-asserts that physical geographic features
such as climate
and terrain exert a strong and unmediated influence upon human affairs,
although it need not be,
and usually is not, deterministic in the strict sense of the word.

2.CULTURAL DETERMINISM-is the belief that the culture in which we are raised
determines who we are at emotional and behavioral levels. It contrasts with
genetic determinism, the theory that
biologically inherited traits and the environmental influences that affect those
traits dominate who we are.

3.HUMAN ENVIRONMENT-Humans impact the physical environment in many

ways:overpopulation, pollution, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation. Changes
like these have triggered climate change, soil erosion, poor air quality, and
undrinkable water. These negative impacts can affect human behavior and can
prompt mass migrations or battles over clean water.

Reflection:
What was the most useful or the most meaningful thing you learned in lesson 1?
Expound your answer:
The most meaningful thing that i learned there were many things that I learned. I
learned that there are three branches of geography: physical geography, human
geography, and environmental geography. Human geography, which is the branch
of geography that I am studying, is the study of human activities on Earth. Human
geographers look at where people are located and why they are located there.
Another thing that I learned from this lesson is that there are eight branches of
human geography: political geography, population geography, urban geography,
agricultural geography, social geography, economic geography, behavioral
geography, and cultural geography.
