Crime Scene Critique Case Study

Crime scene contains physical evidence pertinent to a crime committed in that particular

area. Crime scene investigators sweep through the area to find evidence that can link a potential

victim to the scene. Investigators through their findings come up with a report that tells what

happened on the scene. The process is supposed to procedural to come up with better results but

sometimes errors do occur as it is the case in the staged crime scene.

The staged crime scene preservation is poor. A white car can be seen driving by as well

as a person in shorts walking by near the scene. This could lead to the evidence being

compromised or lost as this is an outdoor staged scene. The scene should be well preserved to

minimize movements in and around it in order to acquire relevant evidence.

Security of the staged scene is not taken into consideration. The tape around the

perimeter of the scene is at some points not there. This makes the perimeter not to be clearly

demarcated which can lead to interferences. A guard should also be considered since it is an

outdoor scene to keep away people from the scene.

The dimensions of the scene are set to cover only a small area. Despite the focal point of

the crime scene being located, the tape around the scene is set only to a small area. It is advisable

to establish a larger scene than needed since the investigator will gather more relevant evidence

for scrutiny.

Enhancing security, preserving the crime scene and setting a larger perimeter would

enhance the evidence collected. This is because some evidence will not miss or be compromised

due to errors.
