ADVANCED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN MANAGEMENT

Course Objective
The purpose of this course is to help students understand the advanced features of MS Excel
and MS Access. The course will enable students to use problem solving and auditing tools.

Course Outcomes:
The course would attempt to help a participant in:
CO1: Understand the concepts of computer applications, internet and office automation tools
in business.
C02: A study of this paper aims to provide new users with the essential skills needed to
create, edit and print professional looking documents
C03: To acquaint the students with theoretical and practical knowledge of MS Access on
developing accurate and well-designed documents.
CO4: Creating the databases and handling operations on the data using MS Access.

Module 1:
Internet: Internet, Concepts, Internet Protocol Addresses, WWW Pages & Browsing,
Security, Internet Applications, Web browsers, Searching for information-search engines.
Internet chat. Advantages and Disadvantages of Internet, downloading documents,
Introduction to e-mail, e-mail ethics, creating an e-mail id, Advantages and Disadvantages of
e-mail services, Mailing lists.

Module II:
Intranet, Extranet, Internet, hypertext transfer protocols, proxy server, IP address, domain
names, website extensions, ISP, router, gateway, modem, Wi-Fi, Analogue and Digital
signals.Network Topologies: Basic elements in Networking, Local Area Network (LAN),
WAN, MAN.

Module III:
Excel and its usage in statistics, basic statistical tests using Excel, linking of worksheets,
Hlookup and Vlookup, Macros, Create PivotTable reports, modify a PivotTable report,
format a PivotTable report, Create PivotChart reports.

Module IV:
Introduction to database: Concept, Characteristics, Objectives, Advantages and limitations,
entity, attribute, schema, subschema; Database management using MS-Access, Creating
Database and implementing constraints in MS- Access, adding and viewing records,
explaining different keys in MS-Access, Excel with Access.
