1- Attach a Selfie with a Fatigue object in your House/hostel. Make an analysis
of it and show pictures (How you identify the fatigue in the object?). Attach
at least 5x magnification pictures of the fatigue using smartphone or camera
in the Report.

The object displayed above is a door handle which has been used since the
making of the building in 2016 extensively by a number of students due to
which is now a fatigue object due to extensive moisture, dust and rough use.
The proof of its condition is shown in the picture as the paint has worn off and
its rusting has started.
2- Procure four different types of household items (old/useless home items are
recommended for this task). Fracture the above materials. Take the high
resolution photographs of each material using the Microscope available in the
department. Attach high resolution Fracto-graphs and discuss the types of
fracture and fracture surfaces.
a. Plastic material

Object in use: A ballpoint
b. Ductile metal material

Object in use: A Pepsi Can

c. Brittle material

Object in use: A Glass Piece

d. Polymer material

Object in use: A Nylon Cloth Piece

3- Develop any one of the following component and demonstrate its application.
Page3of10
10 109
Make DIY Youtube video on its development/manufacturing. Discuss the
materials used. Show the output voltage, load resistance and energy harvested
graphs in the video. In which application, your device can be used? How much
carbon footprint it can reduce (generate some values per year)?. Can it be called
Green Energy?. Attach the YouTube video link in the report. [Marks: 15]
a. Triboelectric Generator (an Energy Harvester)

4- Take a selfie with a cosmetic having nano-particles. Mention the types of

Nano-particles in the cosmetic. Show the picture of ingredients. Mention all
pictures and ingredients data in the report. You don’t need to purchase the
cosmetic. [Marks: 10]

Particle Size CI 19140: 0.04 micrometer

5- Make a DIY Youtube video on how to fix a road pothole using the
recyclable plastic to protect your environment. Video should be for
Pakistani audience. Mention all safety precautions in the video.
Demonstration should be on the existing road in your vicinity. [Marks: 20]

6- Download and Install COMSOL or ANSYS (you can also use the software
already available in the computer/CAD/CAM lab). Choose a metallic
material from question-2, take a screenshot of the following properties
window; density, thermal conductivity, heat capacity, young modulus,
poisons ratio etc, Find the datasheet of metallic material and show above
properties, attach the properties table in report and mention the URL.
Perform a Fatigue analysis of the material in FEM software. [Marks: 10]

7- Find the rates (price / quantity) of the following materials in Pakistani market
through direct contact on
Phone. Make a YouTube video on the given terminologies used by local
vendors/sellers and their
respective technical names as per English books. You can add more terminologies to
increase
viewership of your videos. [Marks: 05].

8-Take a Selfie with each Plastic Bottle having below symbols, What is the
name of these Plastics? Where they are used, Does it Leach? Can they be
Recycle? Mention all in the report. [Marks: 10]

1&2:

The PET stands for polyethylene terephalate. The PE-HD stands for high density plastic
polyethylene. PET is the most used plastic found in plastic bottles etc which is advised to
Page8of10

be used with caution as it can catch fire. On the contrary, the PE-HD is safe to use and is
found in plastic stools some bags etc. The PET does not leach while the PE-HD has some
low hazard of leach. Both of the given types of plastic are recycleable.
3:

The PVC stands for poly-Vinyl Chloride. It is the plastic used in almost all types of pipes. It
does leach some of the chemicals in it into the ground in which it runs. It is 100%
recycleable. Therefore, it is advised to be avoided if possible.

4:

PE-LD stands for Polyethylene-low density. The most use is as a shopping bag, packaging
foam etc. It is termed to be safe under certain conditions. It can leach some toxic materials
if those certain conditions are reached. It is recycleable.
5:
Page9of10
10 109
The PP stands for Polypropylene. This is used in diapers and yogurt containers etc. it is said
to be safe to use. It has a less chance of leach due to its high withstanding to heat. It is
recycleable into many forms.

6:

The PP stands for polystyrene. It is the plastic used in the disposable food containers and
drinking cups. It is said to avoid it as it is hard to recycle. It also has the possibility to leach
into the material that is sotred in it.

7:

The other stands for Other. The others types of plastic used are all under this type. The
plastics which do not come under the others are in this category. The use is mainly in the
bottles of facial creams, sports bottles etc. It also has the tendency to leach and is not
recycleable.
