Foreword
This Japanese Industrial Standard has been revised by the Minister of Economy, Trade
and Industry, through deliberations at the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee as
the result of proposal for revision of Japanese Industrial Standard submitted by The
Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) with the draft being attached, based on the
provision of Article 12 Clause 1 of the Industrial Standardization Law applicable to the
case of revision by the provision of Article 14.
Consequently JIS G 3135: 2006 is replaced with this Standard.
This JIS document is protected by the Copyright Law.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some parts of this Standard may conflict with
patent rights, applications for a patent after opening to the public or utility model rights.
The relevant Minister and the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee are not
responsible for identifying any of such patent rights, applications for a patent after
opening to the public or utility model rights.

tance between the upper face of the surface plate and upper face of the steel sheet). The
flatness is applied to the upper side of the steel sheet.

of any doubt arising, the method of a) shall be used.
a) Projection method The out-of-squareness is the deviation of an edge from a
straight line drawn at right angles to the other edge of the sheet, touching one
corner and extending to the opposite edge as shown in Figure 2, which is expressed
--`,`,,,`,,`,``,```,,`,,```,,,,-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---

sheet.

c) The mass of steel strip shall be measured and expressed in kilograms.

9 Appearance
The steel sheet and strip shall be free from defects detrimental to service. Steel strip
may contain some defects, since processing for shipment in coils usually does not afford
the manufacturer the opportunity to readily observe the entire length and remove de-
fective portions. Treatment of any defects found in the steel strip, if required, may be
agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer.
The defects on the surface shall generally be applied to one of the surfaces 3) of the
steel sheet and strip, unless otherwise specified.
NOTE The defects include holes, laminations, breaks or surface flaw.
Note 3) One of the surfaces generally refers to the surface of the top in packaging
for the steel sheet and the outside surface of the coil for the steel strip.

10 Oiling
The steel sheet and strip shall be oiled unless otherwise specified.

11 Mechanical tests

11.1 General requirements for mechanical tests

General requirements shall be in accordance with Clause 7 and Clause 9 of JIS G
0404. The sampling method shall be Class A of7.6 of JIS G 0404, and the number and
sampling position of test pieces shall be as follows.

Annex A (normative)
Bake hardening test method

A.1 Outline
The bake hardening amount shall be determined as the increase in yield stress,
obtained when the steel, after it has been given the specified preliminary strain, is sub-
jected to the heat treatment simulating the bake hardening process. The bake harden-
ing amount is used as an index for change in mechanical properties of the steel during
--`,`,,,`,,`,``,```,,`,,```,,,,-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---

the bake hardening process.

A.2 Terms and definitions

For the purpose of this Annex, the following terms and definitions apply.

A.2.1
preliminary strain stress, RWH

test force reached when the preliminary strain elongation of 2 % is reached in the ten-
sile test, divided by the original area of the parallel portion of the test piece (N/mm 2 )
(See Figure A.1)

A.2.2
strain ageing yield stress, RSA

test force at yield point of a test piece measured during the tensile testing of the test
piece after it has been elongated by 2 % and heat treated under the following conditions,
divided by the original area of the parallel portion of the test piece (N/mm 2 ) (See Figure
A.2)
Heat treatment condition: heated at 170°C for 20 min, and air-cooled.

A.2.3
bake hardening amount, BH amount, (J' BH
value (N/mm 2 ) obtained by subtracting preliminary strain stress, RWH , from strain age-
ing yield stress, RSA (See Figure A.2)

A.3 Test pieces

Test piece No.5 specified in JIS Z 2241 shall be used.

A.4 Heat treatment equipment

The heat treatment equipment to be used shall be capable of keeping the established
temperature, 170°C, at a precision of ± 5°C.

A.5 Test method

A.5.1 General requirements

The test method shall be as specified in this Annex and as given in JIS Z 2241.

A.5.2 Preliminary strain

The preliminary strain stress, R WH , shall be determined when the test piece is elon-
gated by 2 % during the tensile test, and the load removed (see Figure A.l). The per-
missible elongation range in this case is 2 % ± 0.2 %.
The strain rate shall be controlled as follows: a load shall be applied at a suitable
speed up to one-half of the estimated preliminary strain stress; after the applied load
exceeds the one-half of the estimated preliminary strain stress, the average stress in-
crease rate shall be 10 N/(mm 2 • s) to 30 N/(mm 2 • s).

A.5.3 Heat treatment

The test piece to which a preliminary strain has been given is charged into the heat
treatment equipment and heat-treated at 170°C for 20 min. Thereafter, it is taken out
and air-cooled.

A.5.4 Strain ageing tension

The test piece, which is heat-treated according to A.5.3, is subject to tensile test and
the strain ageing yield stress, R SA , shall be obtained.
--`,`,,,`,,`,``,```,,`,,```,,,,-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---

A.5.5 BH amount
The BH amount (OBH) shall be obtained from the following formula:

(Jim = RSA - RWH

where, R SA : strain ageing yield stress (N/mm 2 )

R WH : preliminary strain stress (N/mm 2 )

A.5.6 Rounding off of numerical values

The numerical value of BH amount shall be rounded off to integer value according
to Rule A of JIS Z 8401.
