Evaluation:
The evaluation of this course is based on Continuous Assessments, Mid-Term Assessment and
Final Assessment. In order to ensure that the learning outcomes have been achieved and to avoid
focusing solely on exam results, evaluation includes a variety of formative and summative
assessment methods (GFP-Academic Standards-Assessment). Feedbacks are to be given for
continuous assessments. For Mid-Term Assessment & Final Assessment students have to Appeal to
see their assessment papers and for feedback. Once the students have seen the assessment, they sign
the sign-in sheets.

Continuous Assessment Midterm Assessment Final Assessment

Continuous Assessment: (Formative)
Formative assessment is an on-going activity conducted to help students to achieve the relevant
learning outcomes and to improve the standards. It helps the teacher to gather information about the
student’s learning and give meaningful feedback. It also helps to identify student’s learning
difficulties at an early stage and provide timely help. In addition, formative assessments help
teachers to improve and modify teaching
For the purpose of collecting assessment data about student achievement following assessment
methods could be considered for the various components:
 Classwork or homework
 Group/Pair work
 Day- to-day observation
 Standardized assignments/quizzes
 Oral presentations
 Extensive Reading
6
OCHS/FP/Course Overview/2021-2022/FND102 Ver.2/Student’s Copy
Foundation Centre-FND102 CRC 2021-‘22

 Portfolios
 Short Impromptu tests or speaking, listening, writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary or
pronunciation activities

To have a common standard among the teachers in Muscat and Branches and among the different
components, continuous assessment is based on a total of minimum 4 ongoing activities and two
standardized assignments. Each assessment will be for 10 marks and will be recorded in the mark
sheets provided (See descriptor below). Speaking assessment is based on the Unit Assignments
given in the course book. Teachers must very clearly keep a record of the outcome(s) that are being
assessed in each activity.
*Assessment Grading Criteria for
Continuous assessments
 Exceptional- Exceeds expectations 10
 Highly Competent- Easily meets most objectives 8-9
 Competent- Just meets most objectives 5-7
 Approaching Competence- Meets some objectives. 3- 4
 Needs Development 1-2
 No Effort Taken/Fails to meet most objectives 0

Mid Term & Final Assessment: (Summative)

Summative assessments (Mid Term or Final) are conducted to evaluate student learning and academic
achievement by comparing it against the standards

 Assignments must be around 15 to 20 minutes. There must be more than one question types.
No extensions are allowed. In case of any technical issues the students are to inform the
component teacher /the technical committee/the Head of Foundation and necessary actions
are to be taken. (Refer -Academic Dishonesty, Late Submission/Extension Request
document).
 To record the marks the teacher can use the mark sheet format provided for each component
 If a student is absent for any of the assignments, ongoing activities or oral presentations,
he/she can do the resit only after the HOFPS or the concerned person authorized by the
HOFPS approves the leave/excuse.

Portfolio:
A portfolio is an on-going collection of work done by a student. Portfolios are distributed at the beginning of
the course and they are to be updated and maintained by the students throughout the term. .It should be well
organized and must include a content page.
List of items to be included in the Portfolio:
