My name is Kathryn de la Paz, and I am beyond excited to be given the opportunity to work for Roanoke
City Public Schools. Based on my research and understanding, I am drawn to gain employment in one of
your many elementary schools due to their strong reputations for supporting students through their
learning experiences. I am the ideal candidate for this position because of my passion for education and
motivation to ensure every child succeeds in the classroom. My relevant teaching experience has
enabled me to develop the skills necessary to join your team of excellent teachers and school staff.

This May, I will obtain my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education at Lebanon Valley College in Annville,
Pennsylvania. While completing my degree, I had the opportunity to engage in a student teaching
placement at Union Canal Elementary. During this time, I actively taught in a Kindergarten classroom,
where I acquired and developed the necessary skills to succeed as an educator. Through this experience,
I gained familiarity with Individual Education Plans and checked for modifications and adaptations to
implement those requirements. Additionally, involvement in this process reinforced the importance of
teacher awareness of the individual needs of each student to allow them to excel in and beyond the
classroom.

Despite this opportunity being my first experience as a teacher after acquiring my Bachelor’s degree,
there are still numerous skills I will bring to this school, such as harboring positive interactions with my
students and peers, maintaining a collaborative environment, adapting to novel situations, and instilling
compassion in all that I do. I aim to help children achieve their goals by creating an inclusive and
encouraging learning environment full of interaction and positive engagement to increase learning
opportunities. I can adapt my teaching style according to the specific needs of my students. Also, I strive
to keep myself familiar with the current technologies and new teaching methods/strategies.
