SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 11

PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1
QUARTER: 4th
DATE: 05/31/2022
TIME: 3:00-4:00PM

CONTENT: Understanding Data and Ways to Systematically Collect data

CONTENT STANDARD: The learner demonstrates an understanding of data and ways to systematically collect data.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner is able to present a written qualitative research methodology.
MELC LEARNING COMPETENCIES: Presents written research methodology (CS_RS11-Iva-c-4)
OBJECTIVES: At the end of 1 hour period, the learners should be able to:
1. Define structured, semi-structured, focused group, and unstructured interviews, and identify observation
methods.
2. Describe how the structured, semi-structured, focused group, and unstructured interviews and observation
method is being conducted.
3. Internalize the meaning of data collection using structured, semi-structured, unstructured, focused group, and
observation methods.
LEARNING RESOURCES:
1. Practical Research I, Quarter 4, Week 4 Module. Department of Education– MIMAROPA Region Meralco Avenue, corner St.
Paul Road, Pasig City, Philippines 1600
2. https://www.scribbr.com/methodology/structuredinterview/#:~:text=A%20structured%20interview%20is%20a,are
%20often%20quantitative%20in%20nature.
3. Materials: paper, Manila paper, Pencil pen, PowerPoint presentation.
PROCEDURE:
I. Before Lesson:
A. Review the previous lesson: Type of qualitative research inquiry.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson. What is your understanding of data, structured interviews, semi-structured
unstructured interviews, focused group interviews, and observation?
C. Presentation of the objectives: Let the learners read the lesson objectives of the day.
D. Presentation of the lesson: Activity 1: Qualitative or Not.
1. Show on the board the following statement. (Separate sheet)
2. Determine whether the following statement is a qualitative interview question or not. Put a check (✓) before each
number if the statement pertains to the qualitative interview question and cross (X) mark if not.
II. The Lesson Proper:
A. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills:
1. Discuss the following; (a). Definition of structured, semi-structured, unstructured interviews, focused group interviews,
and observation as methods; (b). Differences between structured, semi-structured, unstructured interviews, and
focused group interviews; and (c). Differences between overt and covert methods of observations.
B. Analysis Question: Developing Mastery: Group Activity. Observe Me!
1. Group 1: Construct an observation template then conduct an observation about “Experiences of Grade 11 students in
modular distance learning.”
2. Group 2: Construct a 10- item survey questionnaire on the given topic: “Experiences of Grade 11 students in Modular
Distance Learning.”
C. Abstraction/Generalization:
“In qualitative research, it is important to know how you can collect information for your research. This topic, therefore,
provides you with the learning the knowledge, skill, and attitude on how to define and identify differences between
structured, semi-structured, and unstructured interviews, focused group interviews, and observation as methods. I hope it
helps you a lot to develop your problem-solving and critical-thinking skills”
D. Application: Finding practical application (Interdisciplinary)
1. Science: applying scientific procedures and methods to conduct data gathering.
2. Values education: develop critical thinking in formulating questions for interviews and ken observations of
circumstances.
3. English: The students have the opportunity to write, discuss and report the results of their interviews and
observations.
III. After The Lesson:
A. Evaluation:
1. Rubrics for the presentation.
Content 30%
Presentation 30%
Participation 20%
Timeliness 20%
E. Identify Me!
1. Show on the board the following statement. (Separate sheet)
2. Identify the type of research methodology in the given situations (Interview,
Observation, or Survey)?
B. Agreement/Assignment:
1. Please read the following topic in Infer Patterns and Themes from The Gathered Data, pages 3-7 of Practical research I,
Module 6.
2. Prepare for discussion tomorrow.
