Synchronous cold forming machine
forms both hollow tube ends simultaneously
Aachener Maschinenbau GmbH (AMBA) has developed the RH 08 synchronous cold forming machine, which forms both tube ends
simultaneously. With a cycle time of one second, this operation ensures that during forming, both ends stay aligned with each other. The
sections leave the machine ready to be installed,
requiring no additional machining.
The first machine of this type, developed for
an automotive component manufacturer, is
designed with upsetting force of up to 25 tons
at either end, enabling the machine to process
steel and stainless steel hollows with up to 20-
mm OD. The two forming stations arranged in
the axial direction of the workpiece feature fully
automatic, high-precision positioning systems,
which allow processing of hollows from 450 to
800 mm long.

Tube inspection software platform updated

Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division
has announced an update to its TubeShaper tube
design, analysis, and production platform. This v2
version offers inspection of rectangle-section
tubes and new reporting functionality.
A new offline license allows production
supervisors, engineers, and designers to work
on projects separately from operators measuring
tubes on the shop floor so that more tasks can run
concurrently, saving time as well as minimizing
software investment.
In addition, the software now is compatible
with more bender brands, covering machines
from such manufacturers as Eaton Leonard, BLM,
Addition MT, and Numalliance.
The software also features springback management and in-bend measurements. The sketch function allows users to create a first tube
from a few digitized hard points, while automatic report creation helps ensure that results can be shared instantaneously to any location.

Although many check fixtures verify the dimensions of a single tube just a couple feet long, this

An additional complication is that no
single, all-encompassing, universal system
is used in industry to define specifications.
Is the intersection of two lines a cube or
a sphere? Certainly most people don’t
realize that it could be one or the other,
and it’s likely that most laymen don’t
care, but to someone who is measuring
or checking a tube assembly, it makes a
difference. The program behind a CMM

Fulfilling a contract is a matter of
fulfilling expectations, so both parties
must understand what’s expected.
Qualifying a manufactured part doesn’t
have to be hopelessly complicated; it’s
a matter of understanding that several
systems and strategies for qualifying a part
exist and that it’s necessary to find one
that is mutually agreeable. This agreement
must include the type of qualifying

is to be qualified. Otherwise, conflicts and
