GEE 001B - Gender and Society

1. In your own words, what is the video all about?

A major goal of The Story of Stuff is to highlight the connections
between a variety of environmental and social issues and to motivate us to
work together for a more sustainable world. In this film, we examine the
modern manufacturing ecosystem, also called the materials economy.
Systems thinking is used to investigate this complicated system. The film is
divided into the following five sections: extraction, production, distribution,
consumption, and disposal. Each segment has particular characteristics
that are connected to other parts of the system. For instance, during the
entire production process, political perspectives shape our worldviews
while economic interests affect customer demand. Both racism and
globalization have different degrees of environmental impact.

2. How is the video related to a woman in development?

The topic of women in development is linked to the past of things
because of the significant roles that women play in relation to their natural
contexts. According to my research, women often manage family
resources, making their involvement in finding solutions to climate change
and adapting to it vital. As per the U.N. In his speech at the Earth Institute's
State of the Planet conference in March 2010, Ban Ki-moon stated that
women are the key to sustainable development, peace, and security. As
their job is typically focused on managing natural resources, biodiversity,
and ecosystems, women's experiences and opinions are essential for the
creation of sustainable development policies and activities at every level.
To guarantee a healthy earth for future generations, this is essential. In
underdeveloped nations, women are often in charge of managing and
preserving resources for their families. It takes women a lot of effort to
collect and maintain water, find fuel, food, and fodder, and manage
household finances. The women in our communities play an essential role
in caring for children, the elderly, and the sick. Because they are women,
they make the ideal carers. Like mothers, it is always the one who to take
care to their child.
