CABLE BRACKET LOADING CALCULATION

1.0 INTRODUCTION

This calculation provides the detail of type of load on cable brackets, plates & bolts,
and their withstand capacity with the installed weight. The analysis is done using STAAD
Pro software.

2.0 TOOLS

i) STAAD Pro

3.0 SUMMARY

The calculations are done using STAAD Pro software to analyse the bracket size, load
on bracket, load on insert plates & bolts.
Typical calculations are done using angle size of 45X45X5 having weight of the maximum size
cable in the substation to analyse the impact & withstand capacity of angle, insert plate & bolts.
Results are done considering the point load of 76.50kg (0.75kN) which includes weight of cable
& cable tray on angle support with 5 tiers in a single trench. Based on the following results
bracket support is considered in cable trench design which will be sufficient to withstand the
loads. The STAAD pro results are on last page of this document.

Following are the loads on each bracket, maximum cables with maximum number of tiers of
trench have been considered for loading calculations. Based upon the STAAD pro results ISA
45X45X5 is sufficient for all trench section brackets.

Notes:-
1. Loading details shown here for maximum tiers and maximum cables in a trench
2. for 110kV Cables Trefoil clamp & Single clamp weight is considered considering max. weight for a clamp
3. Based on above laoding details analysis done in STAAS pro software by applying maximum weight of 76.5kg on ISA 45X45X5
4. Where as in our claculation maxmum load on any bracket is 72.76kg.
TRENCH BOLT AND PLATE DESIGN

Design of Connection- Type- Base plate-Angle Member connection

Staad Output Data

Maximum shear force = total load of cable 5 layers in section 5-5

2 assumed as 0.75 kn per layer = 3.75 kN
Design strength of steel used = 250 N/mm2

Angle Section dimension:

D = Total depth = 45 mm
W = Total width = 45 mm
T = Member thickness = 5 mm

Check for shear force:

Dia of bolt = 10 mm
Anb = 61.23 mm2
Shera capacity of bolt = (fu/3^0.5)x(Anb/Ɣmb) kN

Shera capacity of 1 bolt = 11595.17949 N

11.60 KN
No. of bolts provided = 6

Hence, shear force in 1-bolt = 0.63 kN HENCE. O.K.

Bearing capacity of plate in tension

Length of base plate assumed = 1500 mm

Breadth of base plate = 75 mm
Thickness of base plate = 10 mm
Capacity of plate in tension Tnd=0.72fuAn
191.88 KN HENCE. O.K.
Please note that out of all the sections , most no of cable trays were in
scetion 5-5 so this design is applicable for other trays also, maximum load
on any tray is 0.75 kn/m approx, in staad files of sectio 1-1 which is taken
for design
