Mr. Abid Gul tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 via a real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test of a nasopharyngeal swab. Although a negative result was found, the clinician notes recommend re-testing if the patient is symptomatic or had contact with a known infected person, as false negatives can occur. They also advise maintaining quarantine even with a negative result if the patient was asymptomatic at the time of testing, and repeating the test if symptoms develop later.

SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Negative
SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid was not detected by means of a real-time reverse
A negative result does not exclude the possibility of SARS-CoV-2 infection. If
the patient is symptomatic, has had contact with a known infected person or has other laboratory or radiological features of COVID-19, re-testing is recommended as well as 14 days of quarantine. For patients with lower respiratory tract infections, false negative results can arise when upper tract swabs are tested. A repeat PCR on sputum, a tracheal aspirate or a BAL specimen is recommended.
If the patient was asymptomatic at the time of testing, please maintain
quarantine and repeat testing should symptoms develop. A negative result under these circumstances does NOT mean that the patient is not infected.
