MONTHLY TEST : APRIL ( 2022-23)

CLASS : XII SUBJECT : BIOLOGY MAX.MARKS : 20 TIME : 30 MIN.

Read the following case and answer the following questions.

Cross pollination is the transfer-of pollen grains from the anther of one flower to the stigma of a
genetically different flower. It is performed with the help of an external agency which may be abiotic
(e.g., wind, water) or biotic (e.g., insects, birds, bats, snails). The diagram shows the carpel of an insect
pollinated flower.

Q1- What is the most likely reason for non germination of pollen grain Z? 1
A. Pollen grains X and Y were brought to the stigma earlier, therefore, their germination inhibited
the germination of pollen grain Z.
B. Pollen grain Z was brought to the flower by wind, while pollen grains X and Y were brought to
the flower by insect
C. Pollen grain Z lacks protrusions that allow it to adhere properly onto the stigma surface
D. Pollen grain Z comes from a flower of an incompatible species

Q2- Which of the following best describes the function of the pollen tube? 1
A. It acts as a conduit to transport male gametes from the anther to the ovule
B. It acts as a conduit to transport male gametes from the stigma to the ovule.
C. It contains key nutrients that serve to nourish the newly-formed zygote
D. It digests the tissues of the stigma, style and ovary.

Q3- Assertion : Pollen mother cells (PMCs) are the first male gametophytic cells.
Reason : Each PMC gives rise to two pollens. 1
A. Both Assertion and Reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.
B. Both Assertion and Reason are true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
C. Assertion is true but Reason are false.
D. Both Assertion and Reason are false

Q4- State the functions of acrosome and fimbriae. 2

Q5- Mention any two strategies evolved to prevent self-pollination in flowers. 2
Q6- What is cleistogamy? Write one advantage and one disadvantage of it, to the plant.
OR
Differentiate between autogamy, geitonogamy and xenogamy. 2

Q7- With reference to the following schematic diagram of (a)Spermatogenesis and (b)Oogenesis answer
the following questions -

a) About 300 million spermatozoa may be present in a human male ejaculation at one time.Calculate
how many spermatocytes will be involved to produce this number of spermatozoa.
b) How many spermatids will be formed?
c) How many chromatids are found during Oogenesis in Primary oocyte and First polar body in
a human female? 3

Q8- Draw a labelled diagram of an enlarged view of microsporangium of an angiosperm.

OR
a) Name the organic material exine of the pollen grain is made up of ? How are these material
advantages to pollen grain?
b) Still it is observed that it does not form a continuous layer around the pollen grain. Justify.
c) How are ‘pollen banks’ useful ? 3

Q9- The graph given below shows the variation in the levels of ovarian hormones during various phases
of menstrual cycle:

a) Identify ‘A’ and ‘B’.

b) Specify the source of the hormone marked in the diagram.
c) Reason out why A peaks before B.
d) Compare the roles of A and B.
OR
a) How is the entry of sperm into the ovum facilitated?
b) ‘Parturition is induced by a complex Neuro endocrine mechanism’. Justify 5
