INTRODUCTION

This school-based assessment (S.B.A) showcases the negative effects mental disorder has on our

high school students. Three (3) pieces of material were gathered which include: a video, picture and

an article to support the effects mental disorder has on our youths.

Plan Of Investigation

Topic: Frequencies of Panic Disorder

The reason why I chose this specific topic is because panic disorder can happen to me or my family, so that I

can have some knowledge about this health problem called panic disorder. It is a very dangerous problem that

citizens need to know about.

The expected benefits that I want to gain as a student of English A are comprehension, narrative writing and

letter writing as well.

I will gather the relevant information –a picture, poem and a quote from the internet persons who have a panic

attack.

I will use the language skill: summarizing and critical thinking. These will be used when I am writing my

reflection and report.

Reflection #1.

How the material I have selected shaped my thinking on my topic?

The first artifact that I have selected was a picture. It shows a woman struggling with breathing and is

in depression. This artifact made me feel heartbroken towards persons who are struggling with panic disorder,

especially the ones that are not taking this sickness seriously.

The second artifact that I have selected was a poem by Ms. Brittany Sobers, it explains the sudden

feelings and intense anxiety that triggers severe physical reactions when there is no real danger and that panic

disorder will always remain with you. This made me feel the need to share my information with others around

me, so that I can educate them about how life-threatening panic disorder really is.

Finally, the last artifact that I selected was a quote by Mr. Steve Cornell. The quote explains that

whatever you do don`t judge a book by its cover because you don’t know what persons are going through. This

made me feel well aware of how much damage is caused by this one action.
Reflection #2.

The first artifact is a photo depicting the comparison between someone who is not having a panic

attack to someone whose have an actual panic attack. The language technique that was used in the picture is the

Compare and Contrast technique. This is a very effective because it emphasizes the negative effects, as it shows

what happens before and during a panic attack.

The second artifact explains that panic disorder causes serious health complications. The language

technique that was used in the article is the use of evidence technique. This is effective because it proves all of

the information correct with facts rather than opinion and it also shows that research was done on this topic.

The last artifact shows some effects of panic disorder on the human body and provides information

about it. The language technique that is used in the video is Imagery. This is effective because it vividly creates

images that appeal to senses and it clearly paints the picture of what will happen during a panic attack.
Reflection #3.

My topic along with the SBA process helps me to become a better person. This is so because knowing

all this information I can share my knowledge and help educate people who find it hard to try to prevent

themselves from having a panic attack. They will gain knowledge which can save their lives.

I will help the to realize that panic disorder isn't nobody's friend and it can result in symptoms such as:

shortness of breath, nausea. All of these symptoms came from depression, trauma etc. I am pleased to be

exposed to this information as I am able to help others to realize that panic disorder can cause a negative effect

among people in today's society.

Not only did this SBA research helped me to gain confidence in myself referring to my oral presentation,

but it is also exposed me to different words and their meanings. This research added to my knowledge and

introduced me to unknown information which can now be shared to people around me.
GROUP WRITTEN REPORT

The SBA started with our teacher putting us in groups, once we were in a group, we selected our general topic

and individual topic. Once this was in place, we did our own individual research to find a sub-topic for the

stimuli. After this we did the plan of investigation at which we chose three (3) different pieces of artifacts

relating to the sub-topic. Next, we did research for journal 1 on the three artifacts selected, and for journal 2 we

did research on the artifacts we use of language. The internet, articles, textbooks and guidance from our teacher

and group discussions.

Carefully selected, the group members decided to choose a poem HIV/AIDS by Cedi C. booker, a quote on

panic disorder by Steve Cornell and a quote on schizophrenia about realities by Phillip K. Dick. Each group

member selected the three pieces based on the type of information and how well it relates to their sub-topic.

Poem on HIV/AIDS by Cedi C. Booker

It warns people to get tested no matter who the person is. It also tells us their point of view on how people treat

them like outcast and how they just wanted to be loved.

Poem on panic disorder by Steve Cornell

The poem says don’t assume he is weak because of his panic attacks, because his panic disorder made him a

stronger person to face the world. This can also go for other people with disorders.

Quote on schizophrenia by Phillip K. Dick

It started by questioning if realities are singular or plural and which one is more real than other.it then compares

the difference between our world and the world of a schizophrenic.

Artefact # 2.

Poem by Steve Cornell

A happy ending always near

And always close and true

Yet failures always on your case

And always stalking you

As calm as day, as fierce as night

The panic comes to mind

An awkward situation

Is never too far behind

It takes some concentration

And motivation

If Ya head is lost, for just a second

It'll grab hold of you

Will pull you down and hold you under

Until you fall again

Sweat and fear will always go

But panic will remain.
