I. Objectives:
a. Formulate the rule in finding the nth term using different strategies;
b. Show the ability in writing rules for sequences;
c. Write the terms of a sequence given the nth term.
II. Subject Matter:
a. Subject: Writing rules for sequences
b. References: Mathematics VI TG- page 85-87, LM – page 213-223
Code: M6AL-IIId-7
c. Materials: Laptop, Projector, Pictures, Tarp Paper
Integration: ENGLISH, ESP, MAPEH, ARPAN, SCIENCE
III. Procedures
A. Preliminary Activity
1. Prayer, Greetings, Checking of Attendance
2. Class Rules
3. Review “Lean & Dub”
The student will LEAN if the name and net of solid figure are congruent to
the given picture and DAB if not. (Nets of Solid Figures)

4. Motivation “My Name Is Chicky”

 Divide the crowd into four groups (YELLOW, BLUE, RED, PINK). Let them follow
the actions in the screen actively and correctly. Whoever groups act it wrongly will
answer the given questions.

5. Presentation of Objectives

B. Developmental Activity
1. Presentation
The teacher will show different pictures and a statement that represents to the
topic and let the students guess the words- Writing Rules for Sequences
 I am a verb with ING form. It is the first thing that the children in
kindergarten need to know. WRITING
 To have a harmonious class every student needs to follow. And
everybody must follow for a peaceful living. RULES
 I am a PREPOSITION that is part of speech. With 3 letters, 2
consonants, and 1 vowel in between. FOR
 I keep things in order. Arrange things in a special order.
SEQUENCES
2. Discussion
Present a calendar in the month of May year 2022. Then use it for discussion.
 A sequence is a set of numbers written in a special order by the application of a
definite rule.
 Each number in the sequence is called a term.
 To formulate the rule in finding the nth term of a sequence we can look for a pattern,
guess and check, or work backwards.
 Numbers, figures, objects, or symbols arranged in a definite order or sequence is often
encountered in mathematics.
Example 1
By following a certain pattern, following sequences show the rules and the next three
terms.
Sequence Rule Nth term rule Next three
terms

a. 3, 6, 9, 12, … Every term after the first is

obtained by adding 3 to the number
preceding it. 3n 15, 18, 21
(0+3), (3+3), (6+3), (9+3), … or
multiples of three (3 x 1), (3 x 2 ),
(3 x 3), (3 x 4), …
b. 1, 4, 9, 16, … Multiply the counting numbers by
itself or squaring counting n
2
25, 36, 49
numbers. (1 x 1), (2 x 2), (3 x 3),

1 1 1 The numerator in this sequence is
c. , , ,… constant, the denominator is 1 1 1 1
2 3 4 , ,
obtained by adding 1 after the n+1 5 6 7
1 1 1
other. , , ,…
1+ 1 1+2 1+ 3
d.3, 1, -1, -3, … Every term after the first is
obtained by adding (-2) to the -2 (n-1) + 3 or -5, -7, -9
number preceding it. 3, [3+(-2)], 5-2n
[1+(-2)], (-1+(-2)], …

Practice New Skills (assisted by the teacher) “Spin the Wheel”

Ask 1 student to spin the wheel and the name that was being pointed by the
arrow will be the one to answer the question.
Let the student show his/her ability in writing rules for sequences through
answering the given questions.
For each sequence, look for a pattern and then write the next three terms.
Sequence Next three terms
2 3 4 5 6 7
a. y, y , y , y , … y ,y ,y
b. a, 2b, 3c, 4d, … 5e, 6f, 7g
c. a, a+b, a + 2b, … a + 3b, a +4b, a+5b
d.7a, 5a, 3a, … a, -a, -3a
3. Generalization “Choose & Click”
Let the student choose a place they want to visit when they grow up. Then
they will click it and answer the questions appeared in the screen.

4. Application
Select a leader, a secretary, and a reporter from the group. Then execute
the “let’s go clap” if you’re done answering.
Group 1 –Find the term-to-term rule for the following sequence in the
table.

Sequence Term-to-term Rule

Example: Sequence- 0, 5, 10, 15, +5

1. 3, 7, 11, 15, …
2. 16, 13, 10, 7, …
3. 3, 1, -1, -3, …
4. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, …
5. -2, -4, -6, -8, …

Group 2 – Fill the clouds with the first 5 terms of the following sequence.

Example: n+2

2n + 5 3,4,5,6,7 3n - 2

5n + 3

-4n+10

Group 3 – Count and write the number of the matches in each pattern.
Then give the nth term of the sequence.

Example:

4n + 1

5 9 13 17
IV. Evaluation
Read each questions carefully. Encircle the letter of the correct answer.
1. What is the next three letters in this pattern A, C, E, G, I, …?
A. J, L, N C. K, N, P
B. K, M, O D. J, K, M
2. What are the missing numbers in the sequence? 1, 4, ___, 16, ___, ___
A. 9, 25, 36 C. 12, 22, 33
B. 10, 20, 34 D. 7, 26, 38
3. What do you call a set of numbers written in a special order by the application
of a definite rule?
A. Nth Term C. Pattern
B. Rule D. Sequence
4. What are the different strategies in finding the nth term of a sequence?
A. Using the four basic operations
B. Following the rules for sequences
C. Formulating the rule and constructing a pattern
D. Looking for a pattern, guessing and checking, working backwards
5. What is the nth term rule of the sequence 3, 6, 9, 12?
A. 2n + 1 C. 3n
B. n + 1 D. n2
V. Assignment
Directions: Read and solve the problem carefully. Show your complete solution to the
problem.
1. Every year, Mang Juan’s kinalabaw mango tree produces 3 more kilos of mangoes
than the previous year. If 25 kilograms were harvested in year 2012, how many kilos
will it produce in 2017? What is the total number of kilos of mangoes that the tree
will produce from 2012 to 2017?
2. Justin saved P100.00 in January, P200.00 in February, P300.00 in March and so on
until December, In which month did he save P1 000. 00? How much did Justin, save
for the year?
