5 PREPARATIONS
5.1 Connections
5.1.1 Schematic Connection
The hardware of the Engine Access Ramp is grouped into Multiple Access
Groups (MACCG). A MACCG contains several Access Units (AU), Access
Switch Units (AUS) and Test Administration and Maintenance Units (TAU).
There exists two types of AUs, one AU that connects 30 PSTN lines (AUP)
and another AU that connects 15 ISDN-BA users (AUBA). The ISDN-PRA
and V5 lines are connected directly to the AUS.

Figure 1 MACCG hardware structure

The equipped subracks for MACCG are included in the following function units:

• MUS, Multiple Access Unit Switch: The MUS subrack

contains the switching part of the Engine Access Ramp.

• NBA, Narrowband Access: The NBA subrack is optimized to

connect PSTN and ISDN-BA subscribers.

• MUA, Multi Access: The MUA subrack is used for connection

of both Narrowband accesses and Broadband (via ADSL)
accesses.

• SIS, Single Switch Subrack: The SIS is a complete small

access node (MACCG) optimized for Outdoor-Midi Cabinets.

5.1.10 Bus Termination Connectors

There is only one type of Bus termination which is used for the cable
inteconnecting TAU-C boards. The connector is RNV 422 02/1 and

there is one in the TAU-C board in pos. 83*40/5 of the first equipped (MUS)
magazine and another one in the TAU-C board in

pos. 83*30/5 of the last equipped MUA/NBA magazine.

There is no need for Bus termination in the SIS magazine since

there is no TAU-C to TAU-C cables.

5.2 Strapping

5.2.1 Subrack Addresses

The subrack address are to be set on a DIP-switch mounted on the right side
of the backplane. The first magazine (MUS) should have the address 00 and
the following magazines 01, 02 etc.

Note When the Node is expanded with a new magazine it is very

important to check that the DIP-switch on the magazine have
the correct setting, before any tests are done.

5.2.2.1 Function Strap plug
Each AUS board in the MUS subrack should be equipped with an AUS mode
plug (RNV 422 04/1) at the address XX*13/3F.

5.2.2.2 Synchronization Return Loop connection

All AUS boards are sequentially connected to a synchronization ring. To close
this ring, a return loop has to be implemented between the first and last
equipped AUS board in the MUS according to the following rules:

1. One end of the loop cable is to be connected at the leftmost

AUS at the address XX*20/1F.

2. The other end of the loop cable is to be connected at the

rightmost AUS (AUS-0 alt. AUS-spare) at the address
XX*21/3F.

5.2.3 Strapping of AUS-C / AUS-EP

If the MUS magazine is equipped with more then one AUS-C alt. AUS-EP
board, functional straps for the AUS-ring are needed. The strap to be used is
RNV 422 03/1-3 according to the following rules.
