LET’S EVALUATE

Minor Dance Injury First Aid Treatment / Procedure

Sprain Use a cold pack, a slush bath or a compression
sleeve filled with cold water to help limit swelling
after an injury.
Blisters Clean a sharp needle with rubbing alcohol. Use the
needle to prick the blister in several spots near the
edge. Let the fluid drain, but leave the overlying
skin in place. Apply an ointment such as petroleum
jelly to the blister and cover it with a nonstick
gauze bandage.
Cramps Use a warm towel or heating pad on tense or tight
muscles. Taking a warm bath or directing the
stream of a hot shower onto the cramped muscle
also can help. Alternatively, massaging the
cramped muscle with ice may relieve pain.
Burns and Grazes Place the burned area under running cool water
for at least 5 minutes to reduce swelling.
Apply an antiseptic spray, antibiotic ointment, or
aloe vera cream to soothe the area.
Loosely wrap a gauze bandage around the burn.
To relieve pain, take acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or
naproxen.
