“It is a visual world and people respond to visuals.

”- Joe Sacco
Seeing images of what is being taught is a powerful way to build student
engagement and boost retention. Not only do they provide supplementary information to
students, but visual materials show images that allow them to connect a topic to what it
looks like. Further, instructional materials with visuals can promote deeper thinking and
build overall critical thinking skills. In fact, bringing materials with visuals into your
classroom opens up a whole new realm of educational opportunities.
A good example of instructional material with visuals is infographics. Infographics
can be effective educational tools thanks to their ability to break complex information
into easy-to-understand components and engaging content. Infographics are a great
way to help people process information in a way that is most accessible to them. That
means providing words, images, and even interactive elements to help with attention,
memory, and recall processes. Infographics often prove so effective in educational
contexts because they use imagery to highlight, explain, or enhance text-based
information. They capture attention and encourage retention of information of many
learners.

What you see now is an excellent example of infographic. According to Brian

Tomlinson, materials should have impact. And in this infographic, the impact is achieved
through attractive presentation and appealing content.
