Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,
not for human masters. -Colossians 3:23
5. Gothic- have a greater freedom of style. They no longer lay closely against the wall but begun to project
outward.
Architecture from the Early Age
1. Prehistoric- man has developed a form of architecture based on megaliths (a big rock) from the Greek
word lithos (stone) and megas (big). This architecture is made of huge stone blocks which were probably
intended for burial. Example: Menhir, Dolmens and Cromlech
2. Egyptian- This architectural style was developed during the pre-dynastic period 4,000BC. Example: The
Pyramid of Gaiza, Mastaba
3. Greek-Temples consisted of a central shrine or room in an aisle surrounded by rows of columns. These
buildings were designed in one of three architectural style or orders: doric, ionic, corinthian
4. Roman- They built them of gigantic arches of stone, bricks and concrete or with barrel vaults, example is
The Colesseum, AD 70-82, Rome
5. Byzantine- It has a lot in common with the early Christian architecture. Mosaic decoration was perfected
by the Byzantines, as was the use of clerestory to bring light in from high windows
6. Romanesque- Romanesque architecture displayed solid masonry walls, rounded arches, and masonry
vaults. It is the period of great building activities in Europe, castles, churches, monasteries arose
everywhere.
7. Gothic Architecture This design included two new devices: pointed arch which enabled builders to
construct much higher ceiling vaults and stone vaulting borne on a network of stone ribs supported by piers
and clustered pillars.

some insights you can share? Briefly explain your answer.
PERFORMANCE TASK
There will be having a competition with a theme “CLASSICAL ARTS” this coming October 2021
that will show your skills and talent. You will be the one of chosen student in Grade 9. You will create a
painting that resembles a prehistoric cave painting. You will need an old-looking paper to paint. Choose
white paper for best results, but you can use any paper you think will work nicely. You may tear the edges
of the paper, add tea or coffee stains on it, or wrinkle the paper to make it look old. You can also expose it
under the sun a few days before this activity. For the painting choose colors consistent with the natural
pigments and minerals used by the prehistoric cave painters. You may use red, brown, black, dark yellow, or
shades of these colors. You may also use green or grayish blue pigments if you want to add colors. Make
something similar to what you see in books: stencilled hand prints, images of wild animals. Fires, and soon.
