Let Us Discover

Today you are going to read the story Berto’s Dream. You will find out what Berto’s
dream is and see if he was able to fulfill that dream.
Berto’s Dream
Adapted

Berto lived in a far-flung barangay in General Santos City. One day, he went to the
market to sell a container of Tuba on his head. As he walked, he kept thinking of the future.
I shall sell this tuba. With the money, I shall buy a hen. Then I shall sell the chicks. Then
I shall buy a cow and sell the milk. When I get a large sum of money, I shall buy a pair of
carabaos and a field. I shall gain more money and build myself a house. I shall take a wife and
have many sons and daughters. By that time, I shall be a very popular and rich man. When
my wife tells me to come to dinner, I shall nod my head and say, “oh, dear I’ll come soon,” And
with that, Berto threw back his head suddenly.
As he spoke, he tossed his head back, the container fell down and tuba was spilled.
This made Berto so sorry that he began to cry.
When the mayor heard Berto’s story, he laughed. He gave Berto enough money to
buy a hen. Perhaps someday Berto’s dream would come true.
These are the sentences taken from the story. Read and analyze them. Identify the
cause and the effect.
