Introduction: Some construction materials are more weather resistant than others. Thin steel or
aluminum roofing systems offer the possibility of many profiles and ways of making a high
weathering water tight/water rejecting roof while enhancing the architecture. They have
become a way of replacing traditional materials for roofing such as clay tile or lead folded seam
roofing. You are to select any sheet metal or coated metal roof tile or panel roof system (ferrous
or non-ferrous), and the methods of connecting these materials together and to the roof system
and provide the following:
1) Research the product or material and give a one to two paragraph description of the
material properties or specification and also explain the reasons why this material was
selected over other possible systems or materials based on what you were trying to
achieve architecturally. This will be included in your A3 posters
2) Produce a 1:10 scale the metal sheet panels, profiled panels, or metal tiles along with the
correct size of channels, or furring used to attach them to the roof deck or roof framing.
You will use your Report 2 construction model for this. You may choose to apply to scale
any wood board product or thin profile metal deck. You will attach your dimensional
correct and to scale, sub-framing / steel channels/ wood furring strips to either the roof
deck or directly to the roof framing. (Research how a particular metal roof system is
attached and the components needed). Choose the appropriate material which best
represents or resembles the color of metal sheet and thickness you have chosen. If it is
standing seam, batten seam or folded seam, then you must actually produce the actual
seam.
3) You are to provide facia board metal flashing and anywhere else metal flashing is
required, such as in the valley between roof slopes and along the hip or ridge.
4) The same format as previous reports on A3 sheets. Digital record of the steps and stages
of installation of your roof. Plan, elevation and perspective at each stage including the
final fully clad roof. Arrange on A3 sheets with subtitles and your description and
explanation of the system.

Format: standard A3 (letter) paper size hard copy. 1 to 2 pages, minimum 250 words. To be also
uploaded as PDF to Moodle on the due date and hardcopies submitted to the instructors office.
