SUB-REGIONAL MANAGER,
WATER RESOURCES AUTHORITY,
NAIROBI SUB-REGION,
P.O. BOX 18150 – 00500,
NAIROBI.

Dear Sirs,

RE: STAKEHOLDERS CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES FOR

GAZETTEMENT OF MANGUO SWAMP

The above subject matter refers.

As Manguo Land Owners Representatives, we attended the above meeting held at the
Docklands Hotel in Limuru on 24th November, 2021. As communicated during the meeting,
we are totally displeased by the manner WRA is trying to shortchange us and take
ownership of our plots without following the right procedure. Yes we all agreed that
Manguo should be conserved. However, since we are genuine owners with freehold title
deeds, and we purchased these lands legally and for value, our sweat should not go to
waste. We are ready to hand over Manguo plots but only after compensation at market
value.

The purpose of writing this letter is to therefore put it on record, in writing, that we as
Manguo Land Owners REJECTED IN TOTALITY the said “Management Guidelines for
Gazettement of Manguo Swamp.”Nothing in the guidelines should be implemented since
we are not satisfied with the said guidelines. As we said during the meeting, we will only
agree to be part of any gazettement process of Manguo if we are involved from the
beginning.
We look forward to your kind consideration.

Yours faithfully,

DAVID MWATHI MBURU,

CHAIRMAN – MANGUO ECO TOURISM & CONSERVATION GROUP.
