Introduction
Newland is a small community located in the parish of St. Catherine. since march 2020 I have
observed that not many students are doing online class in my community. Therefore I have
decided to conduct a survey in my community that examine the views of children ages 13-16 in
the community of Newland regarding online learning.

Statement of Problem
What are the views of children ages 13-16 in the community of Newland regarding online
learning?

Reasons for Selecting Area of Research
Covid-19 has caused schools across the country to discontinue face to face learning for a long
period of time until they can contain the spread of the virus. Many Children across the nation
have had to adopt to online learning instead of having regular face to face classes. I have also
had to adapt to online learning and I have discovered that there are benefits and challenges to this
mode of learning.
I also decided to choose this topic because of the new norm that students have to go
through knowing that they can’t be at physical school. I know that students are having trouble

Method of Investigation
In order to collect data from the survey, I have decided to use printed questionnaires.
The questionnaire as a tool for collecting data has a number of advantages:
It is easy to plan, construct and administrate

I have found many benefits with online learning, some of which are: I am safer at home,
less transportation expense, more time with my family. Along with the challenges which are:
internet issue, difficulty in managing time, no access to data, lack of understanding of subject
content etc. during my research I have talked with children in my community and they have also
explained to me the challenges and benefits that they have also faced, they are: not having any
internet, not communicating with teacher and not having any data, not understanding the work
that is given. And the benefits that they have seen so far are: They feel safer at home, less

RECOMMENDATIONS
19
Students should ensure that it becomes their number one responsibility to attend all their
classes. All students should try to reach out to their teacher/ teachers if facing any
challenges so that they can try to solve and make it easier.
Schools should try their best to reach out to all students at least every two weeks or more
to prevent stress on students. Students under go challenges with online learning almost
every day. In doing this, it would ease up a bit of pressure of some students.
