Research Plan

Initial Research Topic: MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS With Relate to Its Demographic Characteristics: A
Cross-Sectional Study Of grade-12 Students of SINHS (change your title)

l. Basic Information

A. Complete Name: Corda, Renn Renn S.

B. LRN : 114700708011

C. School and Address: San Ildefonso National High School/ Poblacion٫ San Ildefonso٫ Bulacan

ll. Background (dapat inilalagay mo references mo sa mga statements mo dito in parenthesis)

Approximately 7.3% of the global burden of disease has been attributed to mental and behavioral
disorders (reference). Most of this burden is related to unipolar depressive disorders and other mental
health conditions (MHCs). Currently, approximately 450 million people suffer from such conditions, and
it is projected that one in four individuals in the world will be affected by MHCs at some point in their
lifetimes. MHCs are amongst the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide. Globally,
approximately 20% of the adults have MHCs, and low and middle-income countries have only one
psychiatrist for every 1 to 4 million people. Individuals with major depressive disorders and
schizophrenia had a 40 to 60% greater chance of dying prematurely than the general population. Mental
health literacy (MHL), defined as “knowledge and attitudes about MHCs which aid their recognition,
management, and prevention” is low worldwide, but specifically low in developing countries. In such
societies, MHCs are believed to be consequences of familial imperfection and evil spirits. Such beliefs
have been purported to lead to poor utilization and negative stigma about mental health services and
treatment. Unsurprisingly, poor health literacy is associated with negative disease outcomes, especially
in developing countries. Hindi mo naipakita dito kung ano kinalaman ng mental health sa topic mo .
dapat maikonek mo yun sa topic mo.
lll. Objectives

* To study the level of awareness and knowledge of Mental Health Conditions(MHCs). (not measurable)

* To study the sociodemographic characteristic of adults and elderly students in Grade-12 of SINHS (To
determine the relationship of the sociodemographic …. to what?)

* To identify the influence of socio-demographic characteristics from the transform latent of MHCs (di
ko naiitindihan kung ano gusto mong palitawin dito)

* To assess the level of mental health disorder of students in Grade-12 of SINHS (how?)

Significance of the Study? (nasan)

lV. Methods (ilalagay mo type of research na gagamitin at bakit yun pinili mo, sino respondents at
bakit sila napili, sampling method na gagamitin at bakit at proposed strategy o innovation,
instruments na gagamitin with description of each instrument, paano ivalidate instrument na
gagamitin mo, data collection procedure at ethical considerations, data analysis at bakit yun napiling
gamitin)

The researcher will recruit 110 samples (17–22years) from a Cross-sectional study in grade 12 students
in SINHS. Data on awareness, knowledge, help-seeking attitudes and practice concerning MHCs were
collected(depression and anxiety). Associations of MHCs with socio-demographic characteristics will be
assessed using Chi-square tests. Rasch analysis will be performed to transform the latent attribute
(awareness) of MHCs from ordinal to an interval scale. Multiple regression analyses shall be performed
to determine how the socio-demographic characteristics contribute to the combined awareness score of
MHCs.

V.Working Framework

The study will focus on MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS With Relate to Its Demographic
Characteristics. (maraming models ng framework, may IV, DV, IPO, etc, di ako maalam nito kasi di
naman ako tapos ng MA, sina Mam Karen tanungin mo dito. Pero sa tingin ko e mali framework mo)

Independent Variable Dependent Variable

DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS LEVEL OF MENTAL HEALTH

AWARENESS

Figure1. The paradigm of the study

As shown in figure 1, the independent variable of the study is the demographic characteristics of
the students which may affect the level of their mental health awareness.

Vl. Assumption (Eto ba yung hypothesis mo? Kung oo, e irephrase mo para maging hypothesis)

The level of awareness of MHCs will be very low. All participants exhibited a positive attitude towards
treatments of MHCs given they were aware of the conditions. Females, lower education, older adults,
and low SES groups were more likely to have a low level of awareness in most of the MHCs. Public
health programs should also target those of low socioeconomic status and aim at increasing knowledge.
