Introduction:
Floating Trash-can is an equipment that can absorb/suck the
plastics and chemicals that floating in every water resource in
the Philippines, This equipment can be the one that will save
our future with this equipment the pollutants from the oceans,
rivers, and lakes will reduce.
Water is one of the most significant needs of human being it
gives many purpose to clean things and ourselves plus it is one
of the main needs of our body to become hydrated as always
according to myths our body needs 8 to 10 glass of water a day
to boost our immune system based on myths additionally water
give us most of food that we eat the sea foods.
Most overseas countries have no problem with their water
Resources and sources of seafoods because they have a lot of
high technologies to prevent dumping plastics and chemicals from
facilities and companies more than that they have equipment to
clean their water resources.
The percentage of Seafood intake is higher than Chicken and
Pork Meat specially in Asian Countries that’s why water
resources is one of the most important in the world that we need
to preserve from Plastics and Chemicals that come from
facilities that also made from us because if we didn’t find a
solution for this our water resources will decrease many sea
species will harm by the floating pollutants they will also
absorb the chemicals due to that it can damage our health the
water that we drink from faucets may absorb chemicals also the
seafoods that we will eat will become not safe to eat, it can
also cause of poverty because of not being safe drinking water
from the faucet therefore we need to purchase distilled/purified
water.
However, we need to make an action for this to prevent this
kind of events that’s why I am trying to make an experiment
equipment that can help us and save our water resources from
pollution.

Conceptual framework: Reducing Water Pollutants through the used of Floating Trash-can
Currently, Philippines is Third Wolds biggest Pollutant in the World but why is it third
biggest water pollutant?
Because of Irresponsible garbage hauling companies and the presence of open dump sites
near rivers are two reasons why the Philippines is among the world's top ocean polluters,
according to a new study

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines has among the highest trash collection rates in
Southeast Asia yet it's the world's 3rd biggest source of plastic leaking into the ocean.

A new report on plastic pollution by international group Ocean Conservancy and McKinsey
Center for Business and Environment looks into this alarming discrepancy.
The study, released to media on October 1, looked at 5 of the world’s biggest contributors of
plastic pollution in the world’s oceans.

The Philippines was ranked the 3rd top source of plastic leaking into oceans in a February 2015
study. The country generates 2.7 million metric tons of plastic garbage each year, 20% or
521,000 tons of which ends up in the ocean.

Yet the country reported one of the highest garbage collection rates in the region – with a
national average of 85% and nearly 90% in some dense urban areas.
So why the discrepancy?

Irresponsible trash haulers

The study found that 74% of the plastics leaking into the ocean from the Philippines comes
from garbage that has already been collected by haulers and garbage trucks. This amounts to
386,000 tons of plastic trash.
Only 26% or 135,000 tons of plastics in seas actually comes from garbage that is not collected.
The study attributed the leakage of collected garbage to two factors: illegal dumping by
garbage-hauling companies, and open dump sites located near waterways.
Based on interviews with local government officials and environmental groups, the study found
that waste leakage in the Philippines often happens while the garbage is transported from the
collection site (households, village material recovery facilities) to the dump sites.

Some private garbage hauling companies unload their trucks on their way to disposal sites in
order to cut costs. (READ: Metro Manila spent P4.2B to get rid of 2013 garbage)
“Waste is usually dumped at the roadside, at informal deposit sites, or directly into waterways in
locations where it is convenient to do so,” reads the report.

This saves the haulers time and money. The reduced garbage load can even reduce fuel
consumption.

Open dump sites

The second major source of leaked garbage after collection are open dump sites which are
typically near waterways.
The fact that the Philippines is an archipelagic country and with an elaborate network of rivers
does not help matters, says the study.
The study specifically names as an example the open dump of Dagupan City in Pangasinan
which is located right on the coastline.

The decision by local governments to put dump sites near waterways is often due to financial
considerations.
“Land adjacent to rivers tends to be cheaper than in other parts of the country, and waste will
intermittently be carried away by heavy rains or currents, refreshing the capacity of the dump
site to receive more waste,” reads the study.

Open dump sites are illegal in the country under the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act
of 2000. But there are still around 600 of them in the country. Sanitary landfills, the only type of
disposal site allowed by the law, number only around 70.
Sanitary landfills are a type of disposal site in which garbage is isolated from the environment,
usually by being buried in a large hole lined with thick plastic or a layer of clay. It also often
involves a network of pipes to prevent liquids generated by the garbage from leaking into the
ground.
But sanitary landfills are costly to construct. Local governments in the Philippines often lack
either political will or the budget to construct such facilities.

Additionally a lot of Rivers, Lakes, and, Oceans have a lot of garbage pollution due to
many reasons such as Discarded Trash & Chemicals, a lot of people focused on making and
buying too many products without providing adequate disposal system for those thing we
bought and make, also Factories dump their used chemicals and dyes in a rivers, lakes, and
oceans instead of developing alternative system od disposal, most of water resources here in
the Philippines that have most garbage pollution are slums areas in Luzon specially in the place
of Quezon City and Manila, Payatas is one of the place that have many waste in Luzon it is
also called the Smokey Mountain of Quezon City , Manila Slums is also one of the reason of
garbage pollution here in the Luzon because Slums areas in Luzon have too much population
and most of them are homeless people it’s a crowded place and compact housing units, informal
delivery of utilities, and unofficial recognition by local government , this areas have many
garbage pollution due to poverty they don’t have enough equipment and things to use, Therefore
we need to create a experiment equipment that can help us to reduce garbage pollution from
rivers, oceans and lakes.

Floating Trash-can is a Experiment Thing/Equipment that sucks pollutants in the Ocean it

can be the one thing that will exchange and save the World from toxic chemicals that come
from pollutants that also made from us, Specially here in Philippines that we are Worlds 3rd
Biggest Pollutant in the World there this thing (Floating Trash-can) will help us to lessen
pollutants in the oceans the Bad effects of it such as damaging Corals, fishes, and other
creatures under the water. In this case the Dependent Variable here is that the Pollutants will
reduce by used of Floating Trash-can and the Independent Variables is the Floating Trash-can
that shows people to clean and reduce Water Pollutants and to influence people to preserve
ocean.

Hypothesis of the research
Hypothesis question: How does Water Pollution affects our health?

Hypothesis research in study:

If the Floating Trash-can will became success to reduce Pollutants and absorbs all the
floating chemicals from the oceans, rivers and lakes then we will preserve our water resources,
the seafoods that come from the water resources will increase and can no longer absorb or eat
chemicals therefore the seafoods that we will eat will no longer harm our health, therefore we
don’t need to be scared of drinking water from the faucet due to having diarrhea and we don’t
need to purchase purified or distilled water but to keep it going to instead of throwing plastics
and chemicals we should recycle it to keep it going.
