WA 960 Material and Performance Requirements of Weld Bolts

1. SCOPE

This specification covers the material and performance requirements of ISO metric coarse threaded weld bolts
M4 to M12 inclusive.

2. REFERENCES

ISO 898/1 Mechanical properties of fasteners -- Bolts, screws and studs


WA 950 Material Requirements and Mechanical Properties of Bolts, Studs, and Bolt &
Washer Assemblies.
WSB-M1A250-C3 Steel, sheet, zinc, zinc/iron and zinc alloy coated.
WSD-M1A283-B1 to B49 Steel, cross reference for standard parts.

3. MATERIAL

All weld bolts shall be steel in accordance with WSD-M1A283-B1 through B6, B29, B30, B47, B48, or B49.

4. PERFORMANCE

For initial sample approval and for referee purposes in cases of dispute the following performance tests shall
apply.

4.1 Proof load

After welding the bolt shall meet the Proof Load test in ISO 898/1 for the property class specified.

4.2 Weld Integrity

After detaching the weld bolt from the test panel, defined in Clause 5, by any method (i.e., pull-off, push-
off, peel-off, chisel-off), the weld area shall show that the detached bolt has pulled a slug of the test plate
material out of the test plate at all weld projection points.

5. TEST PANEL

The test panel shall be zinc coated steel in accordance with WSB-M1A250-C3 Grade 98G98G-HD. The
panel thickness shall be 1.5mm minimum.
