CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Project Overview

As creative multimedia students, I am required to create an individual project work

on it as a final year project. To make the project, I have to propose the ideas, the
steps, the process, tools, and software that I will use during my FYP work. This
proposal will go through my supervisor as she will determine either my proposed
project feasible or not.

Animation is trending in world view right now. There are big companies in
Malaysia that are the backbone of this industry such as Les Copaque, Animonsta,
and WAU. Their product hit and reached the international market. Animation
creates the movement of a character and makes its sequence. It will appear alive
and have a story to tell. People love animation rather than reading. With
animation, it can boost up the ways of education and information sharing which
our brain triggers to memorize better than reading.

1.1.1 Project Background

Lost in the dark is an animation specially developed frame by frame animation

using Animation software. Lost in the dark tells a story about a young boy who
recently lost his father due to crime and violence. His father has responsibilities as
a police officer and died during his work. This young boy has its rough days after
days until a big factor changes his life. This story is for those who have lost
something important and have a lot of trouble moving on with their lives. Although
it is not many who suffer from this illness there are still people who need
encouragement from other people but unfortunately, no one knows. Hopefully, this
animation will remind people that some people need the motivation to move on
from tough spots.
Lost in The Dark used frame-by-frame animation as the main tool to ensure the
smoothness of the movement.

1.1.2 Company Background

The company’s name is KerisToon Production Sdn Bhd. The company name
takes after one of the symbols of Malaysian which is keris. This company was
established officially in February 2021. Our company's specialty is creating
animation. KerisToon Production envisions becoming the leading animation
developer in German-Malaysian Institute. We aim to provide more products and
services through animation with the purpose of education and awareness.

1.1.3 Company Logo

This logo's main signature is keris which

represents history and tradition. As
general as a weapon. On the tip of the
keris, there is a pen symbolizing the tool
of the animation. It represents that this
company uses animation as a
weapon/tool to spread awareness and
hopefully change the viewer's opinion.

1.2 Project Objective

1. To create frame by frame 2D animation short story.
2. To make a Universal video.
3. To design colorful theme 2D animation short story.
1.3 Target User

1.3.1 Demographic (Refer to Appendix A)

KerisToon Production’s main target audience for this animation is mostly kids
and young adults who are around 12-40 years old. It targets those young parents
who struggle in an early stage of marriage show one of many ways to trigger
happiness in our family by letting a little happiness run around the house. It can
be small matters to adults but it can be the world from the perspective of the
child. Many children lost their parents, siblings, family through this day from a lot
of factors. Crime and violence rates increase day by day, and the world can
become a dangerous place to some people. But that does not mean the end for
them. We as people need to help each other during tough times.

1.3.2 Psychographic (Refer to Appendix B)

In terms of psychographic, our company made this app for those who have an
interest that like art, and love animation. I am also expecting user that motivated
by thoughts of their family. Want their family to be happy. Next is the one who
attracted to animation and cartoon. Furthermore, people who tend to feel
depressed and getting anxiety.

1.4 Project Scope

1.4.1 Ideation/Concept

The reason I would like to propose this idea is that I got inspired by the YouTube
animator in his video called the walk. In that series, the main character found his
soulmate because of his dog. They live happily together. Days after days the dog
grew older. Their lifespan is short so the dog says goodbye first. It is sad but his
spouse comforts him the best as she can. That is the way of life. We may lose
many people but new people can give as much love as the previous. We can’t
stay at one spot not moving on falling into the pit of failure.

2.2 Techniques Used

The technique used to animate this video is frame to frame using rigging.
Rigging is the way to create bone to our character which programming to the
movement and copy the way of movement that I want. Rigging use to create lock
movement like joint of the arm to make it can swing and move. I also use
keyframe to move the object. Keyframe is a location on a timeline which marks
the beginning or end of a transition. It holds special information that defines
where a transition should start or stop. The intermediate frames are interpolated
over time between those definitions to create the illusion of motion. The
combination of keyframe and rigging will make smooth animation.

2.3 Effects and etc.

In this video, I am focused on how the scenery will affect the viewer hearts and
mind. I want to make the scenery the key of vibe in this video. I used the effect of
sunlight and the moon and enhance the ambience of surrounding to make it
more feels. The sound effect of outdoors such as birds chirping, owls, and wolf
howling will be as the key to the video to make it more feel in the character. All
the method of effect that I used for the purposed watch the animation as if they
are the main character.
CHAPTER 3: ROJECT METHODOLOGY

3.1 Animation Production Process

3.1.1 Pre-Production

The pre-production process is the first stage of creating animations. During this stage, I
develop the story and writes the script of animation, designs the character, creates a
storyboard, chooses the color pallets, prepares the backgrounds, and record the voice-
over. This a preparation for the main process, so it needs to be properly done. I am
creating the characters, outlining backgrounds. It starts from simple sketches and
develop into detailed designs and images. Then it’s time to decide the color palettes of
the animation.

3.1.2 Production

Production is the process of creating the animation by gathering all the created
materials together and producing the scenes. This includes painting the backgrounds,
creating the individual scenes and character activities, making the rough animation,
cleaning up the animation (tracing), inbetweening, coloring and painting the drawings
with the help of computer software, compositing, and export. To pull everything together,
I create an exposure sheet which includes all the instructions of how to make each
scene. The exposure sheet is divided into 5 parts:

 Actions and timing

 Dialogues and music
 Animation layers
 Backgrounds
 View perspective

Once the rough 2D animation is created, it needs to be cleaned up and polished. This
process is also called tracing and can be done in two ways: in a new layer or directly
over the same layer with different colors.
3.1.3 Post Production

Post-production is the final editing process of 2D animation. During this phase, the
animation is enhanced with additional sound effects or recordings which increase the
emotional impact of the animation. Once the final version is ready, it’s rendered and
exported to different formats.

3.2 Contingency Plan

The project faces the issue, so it depends on how it approaches the issue itself.
Table 3 shows the outcome of how to deal with the issue.

CHAPTER 4: CONCLUSION
Multimedia has a lot of course. 2D animation, 3D animation, Videography, Photography. And
each of them has their own uniqueness and their own style of work. Student multimedia
need to know all the basic stuff at this course but there is a minimum that we need to perfect
on of those. Animation is creating something out of sketches made it to make it life. Most
animator bring their imagination to reality. Mickey mouse, Aladdin, Agent Ali, all come from
someone mind. In order to do that. The basic of multimedia need to ensure it happen. The
audio and the editing are such keys to make the animation look awesome and complete.
From the beginning of the project, we need to make the objective clear and make that
happen. In conclusion, we hope this project will be success under the guidance of my
supervisor. I will do my best to run this project smoothly without any major problems that can
ruin the project. I hope that this project will attract more people to know more about
multimedia and gain their interest especially in animation.
