Key Points On Poverty

The next slide explains poverty and its impacts on the world
What is poverty?

Nearly half of the world's population

currently lives in poverty, defined as
income of less than US $2 per day,
including one billion children. Of those
living in poverty, over 800 million people
live in extreme poverty, surviving on less
than US $1.25 a day.
Impacts Of Poverty
UNEMPLOYMENT
01
If people don’t have an occupation they might not
have enough money for basic necessities for living.

MALNUTRITION
02 Basic nutrition's might not be provided due to lack of
money
CHILD LABOUR
04
A child will be forced to work to either have enough
for food or to increase a companies profit by paying
extremely low wages. This mentally affects the child.

SPREAD OF DISEASES
05 Due to lack of food clothing and proper shelter, a
persons immune system me become weak which will
increase the spread of viruses, cold’s, flu’s etc.
“POVERTY IS SO AWFUL BUT TOGETHER WE
CAN PUSH IT AWAY.”

—Mother Terresa
HOW COVID AFFECTED PROGRESS AGAINST POVERTY

About 115 million more people are

living on less than $2.00 a day
because of the pandemic, increasing
the global poverty rate from 7.8 to
9.1 percent; 163 million more are
living on less than $5.50 a day.
Globally, three to four years of
progress toward ending extreme
poverty are estimated to have been
lost.

NESTLE, YOUR FAVIOURITE DAIRY BRAND HAS A

DARK SECRET
WHAT IS NESTLE DOING?
Nestle is an extremely rich and powerful company with a
disturbing list of unethical business practices such as taking
clean drinking water in areas that sorely need it, participating in
human trafficking and child labor, and exploiting uneducated
mothers in third world countries, Nestle is quite possibly one of
the world's most corrupt corporations.
HOW NESTLE STARTED

Nestle started with a very evil scheme tricking uneducated people in regions of
Africa and Asia into buying their instant infant formula as a replacement for breast
milk. They advertised it as a product which is better then breast milk and has all
the nutrients an infant needs. However, all this advertising was false and many
infants died due to this. Moreover, after a short period of time Nestle started
selling coffee powder which had caffeine. Caffeine is considered as a major drug, it
stimulates a person’s nervous system and can even lead to death if consumed in
high amounts.
How much plastic packaging did Nestlé use in 2020?
OUR SOLUTION

02
OUR CHEAP AND POVERTY MINIMIZING WAY

The company Nestle uses plastic packaging in all of its products from chocolate related
products to water bottles. One way Nestle can reduce this is buy using cheaper plastic
alternatives such as glass, micro fiber fabric, bio-degradable plastic etc this can save up
money for the company since they will be using cheaper materials.(SDG 13, 14 and 15).
This will have a impact on a large scale since Nestle is a multi-billion dollar company so
even if they do small changes on packaging it will create a huge difference. Since these
alternatives will be inexpensive and environmental friendly they can maximize profit
furthermore making the world a better place on land and in water. In addition, Nestle
can increase wages/salary if they earn more profit thus motivating the employs.
Nestle can also launch new technology for easier farming of cocoa (designing better
farms with the help of technology).
HOW CONSUMERS CAN PUT AN END TO THIS

● We can stop using Nestle products so the sales of the company would fall which
would force them to start producing environment friendly product .

● Consumers could start a human boycott which could influence the government
actions.

● Buy the competitors products which would influence Nestle negatively.

PESTEL ANALYSIS
● Political : Carrying out official government laws and minimum wages/salary.
● Economic Factor : Financial Plan. Cost of plastic alternatives = 2700$
Nestles Estimated Expense: 3,500,000,000$. (3.5 billion)
Nestles total revenue 2021: 95,000,000,000$ (95 billion)95,000,000,000$ -
3,500,002,700 = Approximately 90 billion
Even if Nestle gives 5% of its profit to its 291000 workers they can earn around
1500$ a month.
● Social Factor: Most of the media supports sustainable materials which are good for
earth’s future
● Technology Factor : They can use technical equipment for better working
conditions for farming.
● Environmental Factor :These biodegradable plastics are good for the environment.
● Legal Factor: Nestle does child Labour which isn’t allowed in many countries, by
exposing nestle we can fix this
