a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A
c) A is true but R is false
d) A is false but R is true
16 Given below are two statements labeled as Assertion (A) and Reason (R) 1
Assertion (A): Like bromination of benzene, bromination of phenol is also carried
out in the presence of Lewis acid..
Reason (R): Lewis acid polarizes the bromine molecule.
Select the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A
c) A is true but R is false
d) A is false but R is true
17 Given below are two statements labeled as Assertion (A) and Reason (R) 1
Assertion (A): All collisions of reactant molecules lead to product formation.
Reason (R): Only those collisions in which molecules have correct orientation and
sufficient kinetic energy lead to compound formation.
Select the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A
c) A is true but R is false
d) A is false but R is true
18 Given below are two statements labeled as Assertion (A) and Reason (R) 1
Assertion (A): Molar conductivity of weak electrolyte shows sharp increase when
the electrolyte is diluted.
Reason (R): For weak electrolyte degree of dissociation increases with dilution of
solution.
Select the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A
c) A is true but R is false
d) A is false but R is true
SECTION – B
This section contains 7 questions with internal choice in two questions. The following
questions are very short answer type and carry 2 marks each.
21 The rate of a reaction is quadruples when the temperature changes from 293 K to 2
313 K. Calculate the energy of activation of the reaction assuming that it does not
change with temperature?
23 Which compound in the following pairs of compounds will react faster towards the 2
nucleophilic displacement mentioned and why?

b) Allyl chloride or 1- Chloropropane. (SN1 mechanism)
OR
What happens when
a) Chlorobenzene is treated with Cl2/FeCl3?
b) 2-Bromopentane is treated with alcoholic KOH?
SECTION – C
This section contains 5 questions with internal choice in two questions. The following
questions are short answer type and carry 3 marks each.
SECTION – D
This section contains 2 Case-Based questions with internal choice in one of the sub-
questions. Each question carries 4 marks each (1+1+2). Read the passage carefully and
answer the questions that follow.
32 The Van’t Hoff factor ‘i’is a measure of the effect of a solute on colligative
properties such as osmotic pressure, relative lowering in vapour pressure, boiling
point elevation and freezing point depression. The Van’t Hoff factor is the ratio
between the actual concentration of particles produced when the substance is
dissolved and the concentration of a substance as calculated from its mass. For
most non electrolytes dissolved in water, the Van’t Hoff factor is essentially 1. For
most ionic substancesdissolved in water, the ‘I’ value is equal to the number of
discrete ions in a formula unit of the substance. This is true for ideal solutions only,
as occasionally ion pairing occurs in solution. At a given instant a small percentage
of the ions are paired and count as a single particle. Ion pairing occurs to some
extent in all electrolyte solutions. This causes the measured ‘I’ value to be less than
that predicted in an ideal solution. The deviation for the ‘I’ value tends to be
greatest where the ions have multiple charges.
1
a) Write the colligative property which is used to find the molecular mass of
macromolecules. 1
b) In non-ideal solution, what type of deviation shows the formation of minimum
boiling azeotropes? 2
c) Out of 0.1 molal aqueous solution of glucose and 0.1 molal aqueous of KCl, which
one will have greater boiling point and why?
OR 2
c) Predict whether van’t Hoff factor is less than one or greater than one in the
following solutions:
i) CH3COOH dissolved in water
ii) CH3COOH dissolved in benzene.
SECTION – C
This section contains 3 questions with internal choice in two questions. The following

+ 2+ 0
Ni(s) + 2 Ag (0,002 M) Ni (0.160 M) + 2 Ag(s) ; Given that E cell = 1.05 V
b) Explain the variation of molar conductivity with dilution for a strong electrolyte as
well as weak electrolyte. Draw the graph
OR
a) State Kohlraush law of independent migration of ions.
