Gulayan sa Paaralan

Gardening is very important in the life of human being because it

provides the family with the vegetable they need to eat. Vegetables
give the body nutrients to keep strong and healthy.

School gardening should go a long way in contributing to the

government’s efforts of food sufficiency. It is important and
inexpensive way of ensuring a steady supply of fresh vegetable for the
family table. It can also provide additional income.

The Accusilian Elementary School implemented the “Gulayan sa

Paaralan” through the help and support of the school head, Jocelyn C.
Tomas, EPP teachers, parents, barangay officials and the community.
The nursery coordinator Mrs. Marites T. Cardenas implemented the
program Gualayan sa Paaralan throughout the year. She asked
permission to the school head to meet the parents of the intermediate
in order to tackle about the program of the DepEd. to Gulayan sa
Paaralan.

After the said meeting, all the parents of intermediate pupils

were required to prepare the school nursery and school garden for the
seeds/seedlings to be planted. She also let the parents to prepare and
clean the area of the malunggay avenue for planting. The parents also
planted different kinds of vegetable in between the malunggay area
like eggplant, string beans, squash, gabi, cam0te and okra.
 The vegetables in the school garden helped a lot because from
there we get fresh vegetables for the school feeding and for our
consumption. It is also an added income since we save the amount for
buying seeds for the next school opening. Through the Gulayan sa
Paaralan children learned the importance of having a vegetable
garden. The skills and knowledge that they learned in the school is
extended in their home by having backyard vegetable gardening.

The school was able to plant ornamentals vegetables and fruit

bearing trees within the school premises. We also conduct tree planting
activities where the pupils, teachers and parents collaborated together
for the project. The school garden was able to harvest some of the
vegetables, fruits and root crops in their garden.

The said program is very effective because not only producing

fresh and nutritious vegetables for the family it also helps in making
the environment clean and green.
