DISCUSSION 9

Find any research organizations and what are they focusing on?

Most research in the field of Public Relations (PR) is carried out by academics in the United
States. This includes postgraduate students who are taking master's and doctoral PR programs.
This can be seen from 80% of research article writers in the field of PR coming from academics.
The nature of academic research is designed and focused on building public relations theory,
providing an overview of public relations, explaining public relations and predicting the
processes and effects of public relations in society. Why do we need to do PR research?
According to John V Pavlik in Public Relations, What Tell Us, We research to tell us the PR
process, to tell us what will and will not be done. We also conduct research to explain how the
working mechanism of PR-Force can influence public opinion or public behavior.

What service do they provide?

The services provided in this study help us to understand the characteristics of society and the
world. Research is the foundation for most good public relations practice, say most of today's
public relations practitioners, and those who belong to the professional organization "The
American PR Society." They say that common sense tells us how futile it is to make a decision
without backing up the facts. Research is useful for many things, including: reducing risk,
increasing our ability to have extensive knowledge, making responsible decisions, and providing
methods to test the truth of our prejudices. Usually most research functions, namely providing
accurate information that is very necessary for decision making and mature program planning.

Are they commercial? Who are the clients?

This research is not commercial because it is very useful for students. Various groups, especially
social scientists, generally agree that several specific objectives of conducting research are: (1) to
describe (descriptive), (2) to explain (explanatory), and (3) to predict (predictive). Descriptive
research is designed to paint a picture of a process, situation or phenomenon. These images tell
us what happened or about something or the characteristics of a person. Explanatory research
tells us why it happened. This research tells us about cause and effect. Predictive research tells
the possibilities that will happen, if we do or don't do something.
