Factors affecting safety leadership of construction project owners in Indonesia

In the article "Factors affecting safety leadership of construction project owners in Indonesia," written
by Indrayana, D. V., et al., the authors determine how construction project owners use safety leadership in
their construction projects, as well as how construction project owners can improve their performance in the
role of safety leadership in construction projects. According to the article, the topic of employee safety is
rarely broached in Indonesia. As a result of the high number of reports of accidents that occur during
construction projects, the Indonesian government has mandated that all parties involved in the construction
industry must have adequate safety leadership. This applies not only to the contractors, but also to the owners
of the projects themselves.
In the abstract of the journal article, it is stated very clearly that the purpose of the article is to
determine the factors that influence the safety and health leadership of the project owners in Indonesia. In
order to accomplish this goal, the researchers used a technique known as the Delphi round technique to
analyze the expert's judgements in order to prevent biases from affecting the results. This method is used to
solicit the opinions of seven (7) experts from a variety of fields, including (1) the construction project owner
of a railway; (2) government officials; (3) academics; and (1) the senior vice president of a large contractor
company. These opinions are solicited through a variety of processes and controls. The method was carried
out by means of a discussion forum that was overseen by a moderator. During this forum, all of the relevant
factors were discussed in a constrained amount of time, and it was anticipated that these discussions would
accurately represent the leadership of the construction owner. Due to the findings, the Delphi method was
able to efficiently deliver a reliable solution. Although the experts did not choose to discount any of the criteria,
one of the elements required editorial modification. The investigation did not take into account one of the
indicators, however. The rest will result in an editorial correction being made. One of the characteristics that
eventually becomes the most basic component of being a successful safety leader in construction projects
is commitment. As a result, the owner of the project ought to prioritize satisfying this aspect over all the others.
The second and third indicators were modified such that their new titles are "ability to regulate and oversee"
and "ability to coach the stakeholders in problem-solving." This is an enlargement from the preceding aspect,
as it depicts how a leader interacts with other people in the group. Additionally, it is anticipated that the owner
of the construction project would physically show up at the workplace of the construction project on a frequent
basis. It is for this reason that the engagement of the project owner is envisaged to improve the safety
performance of the stakeholders. There are five (5) components that go into effective safety leadership, and
they are as follows: psychology, sociology, participatory, conversation intensity to stakeholders, and technical
knowledge. Knowledge of technological concepts received the best possible score. Although it is the most
advanced aspect for the project owner, specialists stated that it is essential for the execution of safety
measures. The owners of the project also need to have strong communication skills, both with the project's
external and internal stakeholders.
When undertaking any project, it is essential to consider the factors of the project owners. Ensuring
that these factors are considered during the project planning stages will ensure a smooth and successful
execution of the project. When working on a construction project, it is important to take safety and health
precautions to ensure both the workers and the public are safe, in which in the factors of the project owners
can help with the safety of the construction workers.
