1
Mitchell High School Construction Project

Construction Costs:

Based upon the successful low bidders, the costs of the project are:

Base Bid: Main Body of the School Building: $45,618,901

Alternate 1: Columns $ 170,730
Alternate 2: Athletic Facility Shell $ 8,174,819
Alternate 3: Finished Interior for Main Gym $ 1,820,582
Alternate 9: Deduct for Made In America Option Included in Base Bid Above
Alternate 10: Waive Performance Bond Included in Base Bid Above

Total Cost: Based Bid + Alternates 1-3: $55,816,199

Revenue Sources:

Original Bond Sale: $24,484,521

Interest Earned on Original Bond Sale $ 1,000,000
ESSER (Federal Funds): $ 4,100,000
Capital Outlay Reserve: $ 8,691,678
Food Service Contribution: $ 550,000
Additional Capital Outlay Bond Sales: $17,000,000
(To be Sold Spring, 2024)

Total Revenues: $55,816,199

What About the Rest of the Project? (Alternatives 4-8)

Through value engineering, future revenues sources, use of unexpended contingency, these
would be pursued both during the 22-month construction project and after its completion. Thus,
we would be staging the remaining aspects of the project.

Recommendation:

Based upon these numbers and explanations, I am recommending that the Board approve the low
bidders which met specifications, as indicated by Puetz Design + Build, on the following pages,
for the Base Bid, Alternate 1, Alternate 2, Alternate 3, Alternate 9, and Alternate 10.

I recognize that alternate 1, the columns, is not a preference for a number of individuals. Lead
architect Robin Miller and I both believe it provides an image consistent with and evocative of
an educational institution and that it will make the building iconic. Given the Board’s thoughts
on alternate 1, you may wish to approve or not approve it, however.
