Special School Board Meeting
Agenda Item
Subject: Board Consideration to Approve Bids for New Mitchell High School Project,
Including Base Bids and Alternates
Description of the item (including nature of the problem, program covered, impact, board
action desired, etc.)
At this time, Puetz Design+Build and the Schemmer architectural firm will review
submitted bids and Puetz’s identification of the successful low bidders. Mr. Culhane
and Joseph Graves will then review the figure totals, as well as revenue sources, and
recommend bid approvals, rejections, and/or other relevant motions regarding the
construction bids.
Individual(s) who will attend the board meeting and speak to the item:
I will be able to review the item further at the school board meeting, if requested:

Mitchell High School Construction Project
Construction Costs:
Based upon the successful low bidders, the costs of the project are:
Revenue Sources:
Through value engineering, future revenues sources, use of unexpended contingency, these
would be pursued both during the 22-month construction project and after its completion. Thus,
we would be staging the remaining aspects of the project.
Recommendation:
Based upon these numbers and explanations, I am recommending that the Board approve the low
bidders which met specifications, as indicated by Puetz Design + Build, on the following pages,
for the Base Bid, Alternate 1, Alternate 2, Alternate 3, Alternate 9, and Alternate 10.
I recognize that alternate 1, the columns, is not a preference for a number of individuals. Lead
architect Robin Miller and I both believe it provides an image consistent with and evocative of
an educational institution and that it will make the building iconic. Given the Board’s thoughts
on alternate 1, you may wish to approve or not approve it, however.
