Mean of X = np P(z>a) = 1  P(z>a) P(a<z<b) = P(z>a)  P(z>b)

Variance of X = npq P(z<a) = 1  P(z>a) P(a<z<b) = 1  P(z>a)  P(z>b)

represented by the area of the shaded region is 0.8759.
(a) Find the value of P(Z> k )
(b) X is a continuous random variable which is normally
distribution with a mean of mean  and a variance of 4.
If the value of X is 85 when the Z-score is k, find the value of . k 0 k z
(c)If the area of the shaded region is 39% of the total area under the curve,
find the value of k.

Example/Contoh 6 :
The diagram shows a normal distribution graph
for continuous variable X. Given that the shaded
area is 0.2881
(a) State the mean of the distribution
(b) Find the standard deviation of the distribution

Example/Contoh 7 :
Given that Z ~ 𝑁 (0, 1) and P (a  Z  1.6) = 0.1563. Find
(a) P (0  Z  a)
(b) P (Z  a)

f(x)
Example/Contoh 8 :
The graph in the diagram shows the curve of a random 15.87%
8.08%
variable X which is normally distributed with mean 45
and standard deviation 6. Find the value of h and k.
h k

Example/Contoh 9 :
(a) The school football team held a training session on penalty shooting. Each player was given 6
trials. After the session, it was found that on the average, the mean for number of goals scored
by a player is 4. If a player is chosen at random, find the probability that a player
(i) Fails to score any goal,
(ii) Scores at least 5 goals.

Example/Contoh 10 :
A survey of 1000 students is conducted in a certain school. It shows that one out of three
students goes for the history’s tuition class. If 5 students are selected at random, Find
(a) The probability that at least 2 students go for the history tuition class
(b) The mean and the standard deviation of students who go for the history tuition class
Meanwhile, in another survey conducted for those students who go for history tuition class, it is
found that the history marks are normally distributed with the mean of 65 marks and a standard
deviation of 8 marks
(c) If a student is selected at random from the tuition class, find the percentage of the
students who obtained more than 80 marks
(d) If 50 marks is the passing marks, find the number of student who fail the history test.

Example/Contoh 11 :
A worker must arrive at his office before 0830 hours daily. The time taken to travel from his house
to his office is normally distributed with a mean of 40 minutes and a standard deviation of 8 minutes.
(a) If he departs from his house at 0755, find the probability that he will arrive late at his
office.
(b) If he departs 0740 hours daily, calculate the days he will arrive late at his office during
300 working days.
(c) Find the probability that one third of the workers in that company arrive late at their
office, if they depart 0800 hours.

Example/Contoh 12 :
(a) In a study carried out in a college, one out of three students surf the internet every day.
(i) If five of the students is selected by random from the college, find the probability that
two or more of them surf the internet every day.
(ii) If a sample of 57 students is selected randomly from the college, calculate the mean and
standard deviation of the number of students that surf the internet every day.
(b) Besides that, another study about the grade point average of the students for first semester
examination is being carried out. The study shows that the grade point average of the students
in the college has a normal distribution with a mean of 3.672 and a variance of 0.2704.
(i) If a student is selected by random from the college, find the probability that the
student has a grade point average more than 3.75.
(ii) Find the percentage for the number of students with a grade point average in between of
3.0 and 3.75.
