Introduction to Business Analyst Until January 2022, I never heard of the term Business Analysis. It was a vague term and honestly, I never bothered to learn about it. So before, I discuss the organizational and domain knowledge needed to be a successful Business Analyst. I would like to explain the definition of business analyst because it might be that my class fellows did not even hear of this term like me. There are several definitions to explain what business analysis is and who is a business analyst. A business analyst is a person who eliminates the gap between the IT and business industry by analyzing the past and present data to help the organization reach its goal. Organizational and Domain Knowledge Required to be a Successful BA As a BA it is essential to identify the functional domains like banking, ecommerce, health care, and hospitality industries. Apart from that in terms of the technical domain, the BA needs basic information on Java, Oracle, and SQL. The basic skills required are analytical, conflict management, critical thinking, leadership, and negotiation skills (Business Analysis for Practitioners, 2015). Biggest Knowledge Gaps The knowledge gap is evident because as an entry level business analyst there are certain skills and concepts to be acquired. The lack of technical expertise which involves data mining, statistical analysis software, and data visualization. Furthermore, the lack of business skills such as stakeholder analysis, consultation skills and knowledge of business structure.
