non-existent. Extremely high resolving power is ovoiloble,
not only ot the center, but in the peripherol oreosi
so brilliont ond shorply defined pictures con be obtoined
under lighting conditions of wide diversity. The improved
ornber hord-cooting opplied to the lens surfoces, while
vostly enhoncing lhe tronsmisson chorocteristics, corrects
the color bolonce of the light impinging on the film,
Consequently, the color reproduced on color film is
true to noture, while with monochrome photogrophy
the effects obtoined with yellow, red, green ond other

2. Insert end of film in slof of the ioke-up spool, then


press shutter button,

mended thot the film end be secured in the monner
shown.

the lotest Jopon-mode 'tween-lens shutter with such

odvonced feotures os equidistont scoling, built-in self-

limer, ond full flosh synchronizotion.

Avoiloble shutterspeeds os indicoted on the scole,


ore: B, 1,2,4,8, 15, 30, 60, 125, 250, ond 500.
B (bulb) setting gives monuol control of shutterspeed
"'the shutter remoins open so long os the shutter button
is kept depresseC. The other settings ore for outornotic
control of ihe opening durotion, the numerols being
the reciorocols of the froctions of o second. In
other words. ot "l" the controled durotion is I second,
ot "2", 1/5 second; ot "4", I/4 second; ond so
on.

Aperture (iris diophrogm opening) reguloles the o-


mount of light permitted to poss through the lens. Size
of operture olso determines the depth of field (focus-
ing toleronce) ovoiloble (see section on depth of
field). Closing down the operture by one steP on the
operture scole meons reduction by one-holf of the
brightness of the imoge impinging on the film (except
betwen settings "1.8" ond"2"). At f /2.8 the brightnbss

The speciol photocell hos on extremely wide ronge
of sensitivity, closely similor to ihot of the humon eye;

grophy. The direction of swing of the meter needle
motches the movement of the operture ring lo focilitote
zeroing in. Reoding error is eliminoted by bringing
the meter needle to the some level os the index
mork. Folding the photocell flop disconnects the meter
circuit, while protection is offorded the ronge ond
viewfinder windows.
Film roting settings (seen in the film roting windowl
ore: ASA 5, 12, 25, 50, 100, 200, 400, ond S00
(dot between 25 ond 50 indicotes 32ll. Ronge of

CAMERA GRIP AND STANCE
To obtoin shorp, cleor-cut pictures the comero must

be held immobile when releosing the shutter. When


using the KONICA IttM in the horizontol position, press

it firmly ogoinst the cheek. When the verticol position


is used, hold it firmly ogoinst the brow. Apply firm but
gentle pressure when pressing shutter bulton. Hold
breoth momentorily to prevenl body movements.
The construction of the KONICA IIIM permifs, os is
shown in lhe cuts, o ropid succession of shots in
either the horizontol or verticol position.

At slow shutter speeds of less thon | /30 Sec. use


tripod or other fixed support in coniunction with coble
releose or deloyed oction lo prevent blurring due lo

When the two imoges merge precisely into one, the

OPERATION

When the MXV selector is shifted to position "V"


the built-in deloyed oction mechonism is brought into
ploy, ond the shutter mechonism will function ofter
obout l0 seconds from the fime the shutter button is

pressed. Shutter oction deloy is 'useful for toking group


pictures in which the photogropher wishes to be

included, onj for trovel ond other documentory


photogrophs. Deloyed oction oids precise, movement-

By utilizing the unique front cocking mechon'sm of

the KONICA design, it is possible with the KONICA

IIJM, ofter fitting o speciol mosk ond operoting the


frome-size chonge lever, to toke single-frome size pic-

lures. By using the reduced size ll7 X24 nnl pictures

it is possible to obtoin double the number of expo-

sures per roll of film. This meons economy when using

color film, or when doing documentory work.

Looding Film

l. Film looding is done in fhe some woy os for

stondord fronre size. However, close bocklid ofter in-

serting film end in slot of foke-up spool, ond operofing


cocking lever twice.
2. The exposure will indicote lhe number of pictures

token. Stort from "1". However, count one segment of

the exposure counter os fwo fromes.

Sighting Subiect
Use the inside tronslucent frome of the viewfinder
