Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla was a Serbian American inventor,

engineer, electrician, and physicist who made

significant advances in the production, transmission,

and application of electricity. Tesla is known as the

man who invented the first alternating current motor.

He is one of the greatest inventors of all time.

Nikola Tesla born on 10 July 1856, in Smiljan, Croatia.

He had four siblings named Dane, Angelina, Milka and

Marica. Tesla always gave credit to his mother for being a source of his inventiveness. He

was emotionally very close to her.

When he was a child, his mother used to invent small household appliance in his spare

time. His father's name was Milutin Tesla, and he was a Serbian Orthodox priest and writer.

Milutin tried to make his son become a priest like him, but Nikola was only interested in

science.

In school he was an excellent student. Tesla could perform complex calculations without

the aid of a pencil or paper. His father died in 1879. Then, Tesla went to university in

Karlovac, and he studied electrical engineering.

Nikolas Tesla traveled to Hungary to work in a Budapest telephone exchange. He was a

chief electrician of the company. Tesla established his own company the Tesla Electric

Light Company in 1885. Tesla is American since 1891 when he became a U.S. citizen.
Tesla lived alone an in poverty until his death. He died of heart attack on 1943. He was 86

years.

Today, Tesla is a figure respected in science and in the field of physics. His inventions are

part of our household appliances.

The electric current we use today to illuminate and bring electricity to our buildings and

streets is alternating current.

The 10 most important inventions of Tesla are:

1. Tesla coil: is a machine capable of launching lightning.

2. Radio transmitter: is an antenna.

3. Tesla turbine: a motor for generating electricity.

4. X-rays: Tesla is the creator of X-rays.

5. Radio: Tesla is the main creator of radio.

6. Neon lights: Tesla is the creator of the first neon sign for the Chicago World's Fair

in 1893.

7. Hydroelectric power plant: Tesla made possible the first power plant to generate

electricity from a waterfall. It was built at Niagara Falls in 1879.

8. Induction motor: Tesla is the first person to create the world's first electric motor.

9. Radio-controlled boat: Tesla created the first radio-controlled device, a small boat

that was the first drone in history.

10. Alternating current: Nikola is the creator of the

current we still use today to transmit our

electricity.
