General

The ventilation system includes :

1. Avionics ventilation, Debrief
2. Lavatory and galley ventilation,
3. Battery ventilation and
4. Pack bay ventilation.

Two computers give automatic control of the ventilation AEVC

system which are:
- The Avionics Equipment Ventilation Controller (AEVC), and
- The ventilation controller. ventilation

The avionics ventilation system provides cooling air for the avionics compartment
and the flight deck instruments.

Avionics Ventilation
In flight ( or on ground with engines running)

The system uses air

recirculated from the cabin
(by two CABIN FAN ) and
extracts air from the different
panels and equipment racks
(by an EXTRACT FAN).

Both of CAB FAN and EXTRACT FAN operates continuously as long as the
aircraft electrical system is supplied.

Avionics Ventilation

EXTRACT FAN blows air
through the underfloor
extract valve( the OVBD
extract valve is closed).
Air through the underfloor extract valve is blown under the
forward cargo compartment, then overboard through the outflow
valve.

The ground cool unit will automatically stop when :

The ground cool unit operates when :
⇒ Ground cool valve open and, ⇒ the engines start or,
⇒ Ventilation air temperature is lower than 180C or ,
⇒ Ventilation air temperature is higher than 270C
higher than 500C or
⇒ at least one pack is operating.

Lavatory and Galley Ventilation

CABIN AIR

The lavatory and galley system is completely automatic.

Cabin air is passed through the lavatory and galley areas, and is
drawn from them. On ground or if ∆P < 1 psi, an extraction fan
runs automatically to extract the air.

There are no controls or indications associated with the

lavatory and galley ventilation system.

EXTRACT pb sw
The EXTRACT switch controls the operation of the
ventilation valves.
- On ground, with the engines stopped, the
Inboard valve is closed and the Overboard valve is
open, provided Ditching is not selected.
- In flight, or on ground with at least one engine
running, the Inboard valve is open and the
Overboard valve is closed.
- The Inboard valve closes and the OVBD valve
partially opens, provided Ditching is not selected.
- Extract low flow is detected in the avionics
compartment. The light goes out when the push
button is set to OVRD.

GND COOL pb sw
The GND COOL switch controls the operation of
the Ground Cooling Unit, Fan and Valve.
- On ground, with the engines stopped
and the temperature of the recirculated
cabin air too hot, the ground cooling valve
opens, the ground cooling fan and the
ground cooling unit start.
- The ground cooling unit stops, the
valve closes and the fan stops.
- A fault is detected in the ground
cooling unit, valve or fan. In addition to the
ECAM indication, an external horn is
activated.
