DETAILED MARKING AND LABELLING GUIDELINES FOR CONTRACTORS

1. Introduction
These Marking and Labelling guidelines should be read in conjunction with the OYU TOLGOI
Packaging, Handling and Marking Guidance for Suppliers (October 2012). They are intended to
provide Suppliers with specific guidance on the marking and labelling of all items being shipped for
Oyu Tolgoi

2. General

2.1 Handling Instructions

Use descriptive marks or labels to help identify and comply with shipping requirements. Common
labels include

This End Up, Do Not Stack, Fragile and Handle With Care

2.2 Sensors
Although warning stickers can be placed on the outside of the carton, shipping indicators designed to
track the shipping environment, such as a shock-watch or tilt-watch meters, should be mounted (with
void space) inside cartons to simulate the actual shipping environment and reduce the effects of
exterior forces to avoid false readings. They should be applied as recommended by the manufacturer
in the proper orientation.

2.3 Tyre / Crate Labels and Tie-on Tags

For labelling of tyres, use labels designed to be applied to tyre treads. Often, these are also suitable
for crates, plastic-wrapped products, pails, and other applications where a good seal is difficult. The
tyre/crate label serves as a foundation for the shipping label. It features a strong adhesive to ensure an
intact seal during transit, but it comes off in one piece when removed at its destination.

All cases, packages and boxes shall be marked as indicated below. On bundles, the markings are to
be embossed on a metal or similar tag and securely attached.

5, Case 2 of 5, etc.

Lettering is to be in capital letters with letter height of not less than 20mm and is to be applied by use
of either paint or indelible ink. These markings shall, where possible, be displayed at three different
points of each crate, package, bundle etc.

Remove or mark out any old labels, tags and markings.

Each individual piece of fabricated/structural steel work shall be metal stamped with identifying an
erection mark next to which will be painted a site location colour code, in accordance with Company’s
Color Code Schedule (if applicable).

Cases containing spare parts shall be clearly marked “SPARE PARTS” and must be preserved and
packed for minimum of two years’ storage.
