Subject: Men and women average time spent on household chores per day
Introduction
The aim of this report is to analyse the average time spend on household chores per day performed
by men and women. This report describes the main differences between men and women in
household chores in Estonia.
Women
Firstly, it appears that women spent over two hours in childcare, while men spent an hour and a half.
This can be explained by the fact that women are more likely to participate in raising children. Also it
looks like that both men and women spent time in the garden and with pets quite equally, which is
an hour and a half. Furthermore, women spent cooking little bit more than hour and half on an
average chore day while men spent less than an hour.
Men
On average, men spent 2.3 hours building and repairing, which is the same amount of time women
did childcare activities. What’s more, it appears that men spent less than an hour to cooking, washing
and mending clothes. These results can be explained by the fact that women traditionally raise
children and men do the heavier household work.
Conclusion
According to the survey, the results shows that while women spent more time than men on a large
proportion of household chores, such as cooking and childcare, men have historically dominated
construction and repair work.
