Pre-competency Checklist

Activity 1:
1. Form a group with 5 members and write a reflection with introduction, body
and conclusion about oral and local history in your respective local
community.
 I’m Justine R. Señora 3rd year BEED student of Central Bicol State University of
Agriculture. Currently living in Brgy. Potot Municipality of Libmanan Province of
Camarines Sur Region V (Bicol region). Our patron is Saint Del Carmen, we
celebrate feast day July 16. The total land area is 255 square meters. Type of
soil. Its topography is plains. The climate is tropical wet and dry. Language often
use are bikol and Filipino. The barangay leaders’ imperative concerns are
measures suited to the location of our barangay for its economic development.
The unsolved problem depression must be given immediate and appropriate
solution effectively. Because poverty in the basic source of peace and order.
Giving opportunity for every person attain simplified means of and sustainable
livelihood.
 Where and why our barangay called Potot? From 15 th to 16th century the
Philippines is conquered by the Spaniards and the story of our barangay began.
Based on their story residents, specially the elders who had rendered the
Spanish in this area. At that time, it was said the wooden area. Spaniards
attracted and interested the tree of potat which are most of it can be found
specially in the side of the cliff. And the Spaniards are confused about what it is
and pronounced potot. This come that residents named the barangay as Potot.
 The name Brgy. Potot comes from mispronunciation by the Spanish conquerors.
Instead of getting used to it, it would have been named after the wood found in
the side of the cliff and this is the potat. However, there is nothing we can do to
change it or if there is chance. We must just accept and not to change it. The
remains of identity given by our ancestors shows how we respect and value their
grown-up civilization as it part of our history and we are used to it. When it is
changed, we taken away the respect and appreciation of one of their heritage on
us. It can also start chaos, discord, and be re-trained our daily life. So, I hope we
fully embrace and be proud of our localities. Where we continue to hone our own
and each other’s abilities so that we can help properly and effectively the
community we belong to.
