politics:
On paper, Russia is a federal democratic state which has an executive power that is split
between the President and the Prime Minister, but the President is the dominant figure.
The legislature is represented by the Federal Assembly of Russia. In practice, however,
many regard it as a dictatorship built around one man, President Vladimir Putin, who has
been the leader of the Russian Federation since the year 2000. Many people believe putin
has a total control.
Culture: arts festivities clothing
Russia is equally rich in history and traditions and has a deep cultural heritage of art and
music. Though the Soviet Union ceases to exist, traces of this period can still be found in
everyday Russian life in the habits and ways of thinking of Russian people, especially of
the older generation.
Some festivities are:

 Easter
 Orthodox Christmas which is celebrated on January 7
 Maslenitsa also known as the pancakes festival that celebrates the end of winter
and start of spring.
 Ivan kupala which is a celebration of summer solstice combining pagan and
Christian traditions.
Clothing:
the typical woman’s dress is the Panova and sarafan that consist of a shirt and a skirt
kokoshnika woman’s hairdress that is worn with the sarafan and it could be in all kind of
shapes and sizes.
Men ware pants, a shirt, usually with an oblique collar, and on top a belt with a wool hat.
Art expressions:
Russian culture has a long and rich cultural history, steeped on literature, ballet, painting
and classical music.
Some dances are: khorovod, barinia, chechotka all of this are really ancient and have
influences of pagan and east Slavic culture.
Visual arts: painting, sculpture, and architecture.
Russian painting reaches its highest level of development around the XIV – XV centuries.
This period saw the development of iconographic painting
Gastronomy:
Russian cuisine is a reflection of Russia’s geographic diversity, religious beliefs, traditions
and lifestyle. Some ingredients that are usually used are grains, berries, vegetable, flour
and fish. Also preserved food constituted a large part of Russian gastronomy because of
the extreme weather.
The recipe we made: bilini is a pancake traditionally made from wheat or buckwheat flour
and is served sweet or savory.
Religion:
The religion of Russia is based on 4 traditional religions which are orthodox Christians,
Islam, Buddhism, Judaism. There are other non- traditional religious groups including hare
krishnas, followers of Bahaism, animism or shamanism.

History:
It all goes back to when settlers founded a city called Kiev which evolved to an empire that
ruled European Russia for 200 years. All of Russian history has been impact with many
changes with their own territory. In the 13th century one of the more important aspects of
Russian history happened the Mongol invasion which led to all the people to settle in
Moscow. In 1550 Ivan IV became Russia’s first tsar a type om emperor that lasted almost 4
centuries in Russia. The next centuries were for Russia to become more European and to
claim more territory, but in 1917 Russians unhappy with the decision of the tsars created
an elected government but few months later the Soviet Union was made.
Then the conflict between united states and Russia about communism affected the whole
world, because Russia was the greatest example of this ideology. The Soviet Union ended
in 1991 and since then the political state of Russia has been really complicated.
