8 Week 2023 OATBooster Study Schedule (Jan 4 - 23 Update)
8 Week 2023 OATBooster Study Schedule (Jan 4 - 23 Update)
fi
Introduction
For most students, beginning to study for the OAT is an intimidating process. What do you use? How
long do you study for? What is the “best” way to perform well? What do you need to cover each day?
Our team at Booster Prep created OATBooster™ to help students prepare for their OAT and receive
exceptionally high scores. We sincerely believe most students can score well with the right planning,
resources, and practice. As you prepare for the OAT, always keep in mind that you are just as capable as
anyone else if you are willing to put in the work.
We have written this guide to help provide some structure to your study approach when preparing for
the OAT. This guide has been used by thousands of students to date who have successfully scored well
on the exam. While it is by no means an absolute method set in stone, you can follow it to the letter, or
you can use it as a template. Feel free to modify it as you continue studying to match the pace you are
most comfortable with.
The focus of the first phase is to learn the foundational knowledge tested on the OAT for each
section of the exam. During this time, certain sections like Biology will be dense and so we
recommend to start memorizing content early on; remember to focus on learning the broader
picture rather than small details for biology. Furthermore, the Quantitative Reasoning (QR) and
Reading Comprehension (RC) sections require minimal pre-existing knowledge, therefore, you can
begin practicing for these sections immediately.
In this phase, you will also begin completing practice questions to reinforce the material you just
learned and to give you an idea of the types of questions you will encounter on the real OAT.
In this phase, you will begin taking separate practice tests to assess your understanding of the
material you learned in Phase #1. During this time, you will also continue to review the content you
learned in the first phase, and modify your notes as needed to strengthen areas you are weak in.
In the final two weeks leading up to your exam, your preparation will be focused on full practice
tests, reviewing the content that was learned in the first two phases, and reviewing the mistakes you
have made.
However, not all students follow a traditional path throughout their undergraduate studies. Regardless of
when you took these courses, once you have completed them the best time to prepare is when you can
dedicate a period of several weeks to studying for the OAT without any other distractions. For students
still in college, this is usually going to be a winter or summer break period.
In general, it is best to avoid starting late (e.g. less than 4 weeks), or too early (e.g. more than 16 weeks)
before your test date. If you are a current student that plans on attending optometry school immediately
after finishing college, you should aim to have the OAT taken before the fall semester of your senior year
at the latest so that your scores are ready during the application period.
Modi cations
There are many reasons that you may need to modify this study schedule. In the event that you do,
please feel free to make adjustments to the schedule to suit your individual needs.

💡 Biology Pro-Tips:
• Do not make the mistake of memorizing every detail in the Feralis-Booster Biology Notes.
Students who do that end up getting overwhelmed. Please refer to the corresponding Booster
Cheat Sheet to get a better understanding of what topics you should place most emphasis on.
• We are currently in the process of adding a brand new Biology Video Series with custom
illustrations. These videos contain all the key information that’s recently shown up on the exam.
Please implement the videos that are available into your studying as you encounter the associated
topics in the Feralis-Booster Biology Notes.

With your first practice test complete, you should now have a better idea of what the full OAT experience will be
like. Note: It is critical to keep in mind that practice tests may not always accurately predict your score on the exam.
The purpose of practice tests is to identify weak areas in knowledge and prepare you for the duration and speed
necessary to complete the exam on time. Use your practice results to guide how you prepare for the test.

☐ We highly recommend that you rest as much as possible in the evening before your OAT. You want
to save as much energy as possible for the Reading comprehension section which require stamina.
• Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics - Depending on the version of the exam you get,
the ADA may make one of these sections brutal (either heavy on calculations for chemistry or odd
fi
28
biology questions no one can see coming). Keep this in mind and if you’re stuck on a question,
move on and come back to it at the end if you have time.
• Reading Comprehension - There is almost always a passage that throws students off every cycle
due to its dif culty or the odd number of questions associated with it. For example, in one cycle the
ADA had 12 questions for the 1st passage. So manage your time wisely.
• Quantitive Reasoning - The questions you will encounter will be simpler than what OATBooster
contains. If you are able to get through the questions on OATBooster, you should be able to breeze
through the questions on the real exam.
• Get enough sleep, you’ll need as much energy as possible for sections.
• If you get stuck on a question, choose the BEST answer and move on.
IMPORTANT: From time to time, the ADA will add a few new questions that might be covered in ANY
resource OR even make the Reading Comprehension section very dense. If this happens, do NOT be
alarmed! The ADA usually does this to try new things and will likely not use those questions to evaluate
your performance. Also, keep in mind everyone will be in the same boat as you, so remain calm and
collected, and simply choose the best answer. ☺
