Compplex Sentence - NOUN Clause

NOUN CLAUSE

Noun clauses are dependent clauses that can replace any noun in the sentence: subjects, objects,
and/or subject complements.  
In a sentence, a noun clause is a dependent clause. In other words, a noun clause does not
stand alone as a complete thought.
Like any noun, a noun clause can be a subject, an object, or a complement in a complex
sentence. For example: 

  

A great way to check whether a phrase or clause is functioning as a noun is to have a go at


replacing it with a pronoun. If you can, your clause is functioning as a noun. For example,
"What I say is true." (Pronoun test: "It is true." This proves that "What I say" is functioning
as a noun.)
"I saw how the accident happened." (Pronoun test: "I saw it." This proves that "how the
accident happened" is functioning as a noun).
